In a chat with GamesRadar+, Mat Piscatella, Circana’s Executive Director, disclosed that Sparking Zero has ascended to the top spot as the highest-selling Dragon Ball game ever made, and it also ranks among the top-selling Bandai Namco games overall. This is truly impressive considering the powerhouse lineup of titles from Bandai Namco, which includes Elden Ring, Tekken 8, and other major contenders.
Piscatella mentioned that he underestimated the popularity of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, but including a large group of characters in this well-known franchise enabled fans to explore the history of the series. Piscatella further clarified that fans are deeply invested in Dragon Ball, and although he hasn’t watched it himself, he comprehends the excitement surrounding it.
Dragon Ball Sparking Zero experienced an incredible debut, amassing over 3 million players on its first day and maintaining approximately 100,000 simultaneous users on Steam during early access. Being connected to the legendary Budokai Tenkaichi franchise undoubtedly contributed to its success, but Bandai Namco and Spike Chunsoft further boosted sales with thrilling 3D combat, stunning visuals in interactive environments, a satisfying multiplayer mode, and numerous additional features that kept the momentum going.
