A fresh photo from the filming location of “Spider-Man: Fresh Start” has surfaced, and it could provide a clue as to when Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man 4” fits into the timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Although Sony holds the rights to Spider-Man and related characters, Holland made his MCU debut as Peter Parker in 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” The 2019 follow-up, “Far From Home,” introduced Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio, but the multiverse-spanning “No Way Home” (2021) was a treat for fans, as it brought together Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Men.
Initially, the title “Spider-Man 4” left Marvel enthusiasts perplexed, as it was supposedly a sequel to the Sam Raimi trilogy from the early 2000s featuring Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. There were whispers that production on this film was underway, making it the fourth installment in the series. However, what was actually announced was “Brand New Day“, a new chapter following Tom Holland’s three live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe films post the emotional events of “No Way Home“. Holland will reprise his role as Peter Parker to continue his character’s growth story, with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon set to return as MJ and Ned respectively. Additionally, it was confirmed that Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, would be appearing in “Spider-Man 4“. Nevertheless, some fans are concerned that the film’s lower rating might dilute The Punisher’s signature R-rated violence.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Set Leak Teases Movie’s Place in the MCU Timeline
A photo shared from the set of a movie being filmed in Glasgow, Scotland by update_mcu on Instagram and noticed by ComicBook, suggests a construction site with a 2027 completion date for a building that some fans speculate could be the new Fisk Tower. If this timeline is accurate, it appears that the storyline of “Brand New Day” takes place before the events of “Avengers: Doomsday,” which is believed to occur in either 2028 or 2029. Tom Holland has previously hinted at what fans can expect from “Brand New Day,” and he also confirmed that “Spider-Man 4” will go back to traditional filmmaking techniques, starting production in Glasgow since “No Way Home” was filmed on stages due to the pandemic.
Doomsday,” but due to its delay, it provides more time for “Spider-Man 4.” Interestingly, both “Brand New Day” and “Doomsday” are being filmed simultaneously, even though they will be released six months apart. This is because “Doomsday” might need extra time due to the large cast and the busy schedules of the actors involved.
The epic battle known as “Doomsday” could potentially showcase one of Marvel’s most renowned conflicts, where the X-Men will undoubtedly play a significant role. Characters from the 20th Century Fox X-Men era, such as Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, who are fondly remembered, are expected to be part of it. Moreover, the cast list for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is impressive, boasting stars like Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, the Fantastic Four, members of the Thunderbolts team including Florence Pugh, Tom Hiddleston, and Robert Downey Jr. portraying Doctor Doom. Some anticipate that additional casting announcements may follow.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to be released on July 31, 2026.
