Spider-Man’s New Adventure: Hulk’s Surprising Role Revealed!

Summary

  • Banner/Hulk may cameo in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, offering a potential partnership with Peter.
  • Banner & Parker have yet to meet in the MCU, which could make for a unique storyline.
  • Potential Hulk presence doesn’t disrupt street-level narrative; focus should remain on friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

There’s a possibility that Mark Ruffalo’s character, Bruce Banner/Hulk, could make an appearance in Tom Holland’s upcoming Spider-Man film. According to recent rumors, this could happen in his fourth Spider-Man movie. While it might not be the most expected guest star, it would undoubtedly be a fantastic addition.

In the comic series titled “Spider-Man: Brand New Day“, Spiderman feels it’s time for a pause from traversing the multiverse, so he can concentrate on a local tale instead. An ideal companion for him in his cinematic journey who shares similar interests would be perfect. The Hulk (regardless of the version) perfectly matches this description.

A Nick Fury or Doctor Strange Kind Of Cameo Is Completely Worn Out

Only Tony Stark’s In Spider-Man: Homecoming Felt Genuine

Each movie in the MCU’s Spider-Man “Home” trilogy, starting with “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” has had a mentor figure for Peter Parker. In the initial film, Tony Stark (from “Captain America: Civil War”) acted as a restraint on Peter’s ambition to reach Avenger status. Nick Fury, or possibly a Skrull impersonator, appears in “Far From Home,” and Doctor Strange delves into the Multiverse with Peter in “No Way Home.” However, Stark’s mentorship seems more authentic compared to the other two, who appear to be there primarily for franchise reasons. This supports the rumor of a behind-the-scenes agreement between Marvel Studios and Sony, requiring the former to include at least one crucial character in a Spider-Man film.

Bruce Banner and Peter Parker Are Yet To Officially Meet In The MCU

But There’s A Catch…

It appears as though Bruce Banner and Peter Parker have not met face-to-face on screen, despite the fact that they could have encountered each other at Tony Stark’s funeral. Their closest brush was during the attack by Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian in New York during Avengers: Infinity War. However, Banner is aware of Spider-Man’s existence since he’s an Avenger; it’s just that he doesn’t know his real identity. If he did, recall the spell cast by Doctor Strange in No Way Home, which would make him forget.

However, here’s an interesting twist: Banner and Hulk are not the same individual. A magical enchantment affects a being that exists at a specific moment; therefore, whoever it was when the spell was cast—either Bruce or Hulk—is the one who knows Spider-Man’s secret identity. In the comics, Hulk recalls Sentry even when others didn’t. Consequently, it wouldn’t be uncommon for writers to use this strategy to introduce both characters in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

A Banner-Parker Team-Up Would Be Epic

Fans Would be Treated To Strong Chemistry and Effortless Comedy

As a diehard fan, it feels entirely plausible that the Hulk, being the only one who knows Peter’s secret identity as Spider-Man post-“No Way Home”, would play a significant role in mentoring the young hero. In the comics, Peter Parker and Bruce Banner have a special connection forged by their shared experiences in science, guilt, and the transformative nature of their alter egos. Both characters were molded by incidents they didn’t seek and grappled with the repercussions of their powers. A captivating fan theory circulating is that Banner might take on the role of Peter’s university professor, unbeknownst to him, encountering the very student he once battled alongside. This setup could lead to an intriguing subplot. Given Peter’s blood contains trace amounts of radioactivity – a field Banner excels in – fans may be in for a Spider-Hulk experiment gone awry moment!

Even With the Hulk, Spider-Man: Brand New Day Needs To Keep It Street-Level

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Needs to Go Back To Neighborhood-Friendly Roots

In the comic books, Spider-Man plays a significant role in most of Marvel’s mischief and action. However, in live-action adaptations, there’s an unwritten rule that keeps him dealing with local or urban threats, rather than global ones (though not every film has followed this guideline).

In the movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Tony Stark, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., cautioned and guided Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, not so much clipping his wings but more like his webs. Since then, he’s been doing that, combined with some Avenger duties and Multiverse adventures. This formula worked well. However, there’s a growing demand from Spider-Man fans for their hero to return to patrolling the streets of New York once again.

What Kind Of Hulk Would MCU Fans Be Getting At This Point?

Doesn’t introducing the Hulk initially contradict the concept of a friendly neighborhood? Not necessarily. It really depends on which iteration of the Hulk appears in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and that largely relies on when the story takes place compared to Avengers: Doomsday.

Regarding the storyline, if “Brand New Day” happens before “Doomsday,” we can expect the return of Professor Hulk, characterized by his reserved nature, intelligence, and compatibility with the grounded Spider-Man. Conversely, should it follow, the Russo brothers might introduce a more ferocious persona for the Hulk. This could mean a challenging encounter for any villain, as they’d need to be equally or more formidable given the potential team-up with Spider-Man. At this point, I can’t think of any upcoming Marvel villain who fits that description.
