Splatoon 3 Gets New Update for September 2025

Nintendo recently rolled out an update for the widely played multiplayer game Splatoon 3, bringing a host of balance adjustments that promise to redefine combat scenarios. Initially launched on the Nintendo Switch on September 9, 2022, Splatoon 3 has consistently received regular updates free of charge for its dedicated players.

Since the release of Patch 10.0.0 on June 11, marking the first significant update for Splatoon 3, there has been a stir among players due to certain contentious adjustments it introduced. While gamers running the game on Nintendo Switch 2 have observed enhanced graphics, those playing on the original Nintendo Switch have experienced a minor graphical deterioration. As explained by Nintendo, these alterations were enacted with fairness in mind across both platforms, as the reduction in graphics allowed the original console to run the game at the same frame rate as its successor.

Nintendo Reveals Splatoon 3 Patch Notes for September Update

Nintendo recently unveiled the details for update version 10.1.0 of Splatoon 3, released on September 3, 2025. To keep enjoying this game online, players using either Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 will have to download the update first. Upon starting the game, users might observe a number of minor adjustments that Nintendo has implemented in the primary weapons for Splatoon 3. One example is the enhancement made to the Splash-o-matic weapon, which now fires shots at a quicker and greater distance compared to its previous performance.

In Splatoon 3, some adjustments have been implemented in several special weapons, modifying their use during combat. For instance, the range of Ink Storm has expanded by approximately 18%, enabling players to ensnare a greater number of opponents than previously. While it seems developers have made numerous tweaks to the game’s weaponry, many of these alterations appear relatively minor.

Despite the ongoing enthusiasm within the community for Splatoon 3, there’s considerable anticipation among fans regarding the upcoming spin-off game, Splatoon Raiders. According to whispers in the gaming world, this new title might emphasize narrative and exploration instead of the competitive multiplayer action that characterizes the main series. Some believe it could potentially release as early as 2025; however, Nintendo has yet to disclose specifics about a launch window. With an exciting new game on the horizon and fresh content for Splatoon 3, many are hopeful about the future of this popular franchise.

In this new version, we’ve tweaked the specifications of certain primary weapons to emphasize their unique traits. Additionally, we’ve adjusted the multiplayer experience considering the effects noticed after introducing the Splatlands Collection.

Instead of standard upgrades, we made distinct alterations to the specifications of three main weapon types – Splash-o-matic, .52 Gal, and Splat Brella – to ensure each weapon’s unique features are more noticeable.

For Splash-o-matic, we’ve increased the shooting range to better capitalize on its unique trait: the more precise your shots, the greater your chances of defeating opponents. However, we’ve also reduced its ink coverage to make it challenging to engage in strategies that don’t require accurate aim, such as maintaining defensive lines without direct conflicts or frequently using special weapons with high frequency.

For the .52 Gal, we boosted the rate of shots to enhance combat effectiveness by capitalizing on its potent attack power to overcome multiple foes swiftly and generate significant openings. Conversely, we amplified ink consumption to intensify the challenge when sustaining positions in battles over an extended period.

For the Splat Brella, we’ve increased the ink coverage area, allowing for easier combat by utilizing its defensive capabilities to control opponents and secure battle lines, or by using the canopy to extend battle durations for teamwork with allies. To differentiate it from other Brellas, we extended the range of its shots, making it simpler to assist teammates with consistent, small damage, while also necessitating closer proximity in one-on-one fights, promoting quicker and more decisive combat. Furthermore, we’ve tweaked the special weapon point requirements to prevent an excessive increase in special-weapon frequency due to the expanded ink coverage area.

For other main weapons, we made changes to make them easier to use by shoring up their weaknesses.

Regarding the Zipcaster, modifications have been implemented to enhance its usability when paired with specific primary weapons, making combat more manageable.

For the Ink Vac, modifications have been implemented to ensure it fills its ink tank rapidly during one-on-one interactions, thereby making it less likely to be accidentally left open. Additionally, when used strategically, it delivers a more potent impact, effectively obstructing opponents’ attacks.

To make the “Ink Storm” more versatile, we broadened its coverage zone, enabling it to compel hidden adversaries in strategic locations to relocate, and facilitating allies to engage in combat more effectively within the affected area.

Furthermore, adjustments were made to the point threshold for acquiring special weapons, keeping in mind the shifts noticed post the introduction of the Splatlands Collection.

The next update will focus on changes to the balance of battles.
