During Sony’s February State of Play presentation, Hazelight Studios, in collaboration with Electronic Arts, unveiled a fresh narrative trailer for the genre-blending title known as Split Fiction. Alongside this reveal, the PlayStation event offered glimpses into several other games. We got an updated glimpse of Capcom’s Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, more details about the upcoming installment in the Borderlands series, and the announcement for pre-orders of the remastered version of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, which boasts improved controls and high-definition graphics.
In a nutshell, “Split Fiction” is an upcoming cooperative multiplayer game arriving on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles, led by director Josef Fares. This unique tale revolves around two writers, Zoe and Mio, who find themselves stuck within their own literary creations. Players can take charge of either character, collaborating to traverse the intriguing science-fiction and fantasy landscapes brimming with engaging challenges. The game was finalized at the end of January 2025, paving the way for a marketing blitz in February before its release on March 6, 2025.
The brief video teaser offered a more detailed glimpse into the captivating gameplay that awaits, making Split Fiction particularly intriguing for those who enjoyed games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, as it skillfully combines elements of science-fiction and fantasy. Key highlights from the new trailer included a clearer view of the game’s level design, stunning visuals showcasing characters moving through various worlds, and another taste of the unique gameplay experiences each duo will encounter. Additionally, viewers caught glimpses of the game’s Side Stories, which are unusual events that occur in the simulation as an attempt to steal the writers’ unfinished tales.
Split Fiction Debuts New Story Trailer During State of Play
Building on the triumphs of Hazelight’s past blockbusters, such as “A Way Out” and “It Takes Two”, fans are eagerly anticipating an engaging gaming experience from “Split Fiction”. Notably, each copy of the game will come with a Friend’s Pass, enabling two players to enjoy the game from a single purchase, consistent with Hazelight’s established practice. The side stories and enigmatic portals scattered across the vibrant landscape seem poised to challenge the mind-bending gameplay of “Alan Wake”, as these interactions are promised to deliver intriguing and entertaining scenarios that may occasionally veer into chaos.
2025 is shaping up to be an unforgettable year for gaming, with my personal favorite, Grand Theft Auto 6 by Rockstar, being one of the highly anticipated releases. Despite no definite release date yet, it’s still on the list. Other games that have me excited include Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Doom: The Dark Ages, and Elden Ring Nightreign. I can hardly wait!
