1047 Games announced during the State of Play event that a crossplay alpha test for Splitgate 2 will start on February 27 and run until March 2. This test will be available on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, although they emphasized that the game will also be released on previous generation consoles as well.
In July 2024, a new version of Splitgate, known as Splitgate 2, was unveiled. Originating from the remnants of the initial Splitgate, a futuristic first-person shooter game with portal mechanics that went into early release in 2019, Splitgate 2 emerged following a significant decline in its player base after its full release in September 2022.
1047 Games has significantly enhanced the Splitgate IP over the past couple of years, and the upcoming title appears quite polished.
The Next Generation
The game titled Splitgate 2, often likened to a blend of ‘Halo’ and ‘Portal’, is developing into a distinctive first-person shooter experience. This unique title seamlessly combines conventional multiplayer settings and controls with portals, enabling players to swiftly place and manipulate these ‘teleportation tools’ on the fly, instantly transforming the battlefield.
The main idea behind Splitgate was excitingly presented in the initial release, however, due to insufficient content and weak long-term engagement for players, it eventually struggled to maintain its footing.
1047 Games showcased at State of Play that they will be conducting an alpha playtest for Splitgate 2 from February 27 to March 2. Players using PC, PS5, or Xbox Series consoles are welcome to join in on this test. This is the inaugural crossplay trial for the game, which includes a variety of modes, weapons, and maps.
A key advantage of the ‘alpha’ lies in its massive 24-player multiplayer setting, divided into three teams of eight players each.
