As a longtime fan of Square Enix and its iconic game franchises like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia when I heard about the opening of the new Square Enix Garden Official Goods Shop in Tokyo. Growing up in Japan, these games were not just entertainment, they were an integral part of my childhood. The memories of playing through countless adventures with Cloud Strife and the iconic slime from Dragon Quest are still vivid in my mind, and now I have the opportunity to relive those moments by owning a piece of memorabilia that brings back those feelings.
I remember when Square Enix was formed in 2003, merging SquareSoft and Enix to create one of Japan’s largest gaming entities. The company has always been a powerhouse in the industry, with legendary franchises like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts under its belt. So it comes as no surprise that the merchandise sales have seen growth, even amidst a drop in stock value.
I was fortunate enough to visit the store on its opening day and was amazed by the selection of goods available, from CDs and figures to hoodies, keychains, and plushies. I even spotted several sculptures of popular Square Enix characters like Cloud Strife and the iconic slime, which brought a smile to my face.
I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of Square Enix’s upcoming games, such as Visions of Mana, Fantasian: Neo Dimension, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. I can’t wait to get my hands on them and continue my journey through these beloved worlds.
The recent drop in Square Enix’s stock value might have some people worried, but for me, it only strengthens my faith in the company. After all, they say that a rising tide lifts all boats, and I believe that Square Enix’s merchandise sales will continue to thrive as long as they keep delivering high-quality games and products that resonate with fans like me.
In closing, I must add a little humor to my experience – it turns out that the iconic slime from Dragon Quest is actually a picky eater! Who knew that even fictional creatures could be so particular about their diet? But hey, that’s just another reason for me to keep supporting Square Enix and its incredible games.

2024 sees Square Enix unveiling a collection of their upcoming releases: “Visions of Mana”, “Fantasian: Neo Dimension”, “Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven”, and “Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake”. The PC version of “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth”, the second installment in the “Final Fantasy 7 Remake” trilogy, is slated for release on January 23, 2025. Additionally, new remakes of the first two “Dragon Quest” games are anticipated to drop in that year too.
As Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake launched in November, Square Enix’s shares experienced a decrease of up to 12% at the Tokyo Stock Exchange. This drop occurred shortly after the company had announced that their net sales from April to September fell by 8.4% compared to the same period last year. Despite this decline in overall net sales, operating income increased by 22.1%. Notably, the sales and operating income from merchandise saw a growth of 14.7%, largely due to strong sales of new goods featuring popular characters under the Square Enix brand.
