As a die-hard fan of Squid Game, having binge-watched all seasons and memorizing every detail, I must say that the second season is proving to be just as thrilling and suspenseful as the first! The Six-Legged Pentathlon game was an exciting twist, testing not only the players’ physical abilities but also their teamwork and strategy skills.
Following the ruthless version of the “Red Light, Green Light” contest, many participants in Squid Game season 2 realized their impending demise if they didn’t exit the competition. Yet, there were some who refused to leave due to the enticing prize money and the burdensome debts awaiting them outside. Consequently, these players opted to continue the games and press forward. In the first round of voting, Player 456, also known as Seong Gi-hun, revealed his past participation in these games and claimed to be the sole survivor. The other players sought him out, hoping he would disclose details about the upcoming game. However, a twist unfolds when Gi-hun discovers that the rules have been altered, and they will now compete in a new game titled “Six Legged Pentathlon.
In the fifth episode of Squid Game season 2, we find a group of five players engaged in four quick mini-games. Their goal is to finish these games within just five minutes. Additionally, they must reach the end point within this timeframe if they wish to advance to the next round. At the climax of the fourth episode, it was evident that the first two teams had been disqualified due to their inability to complete the games and cross the finish line before time expired. Now, the players are fully aware of the high stakes involved and will need to devise a winning strategy. Can our protagonist Gi-hun and all the other contestants manage to outlast this challenge? Let’s explore what unfolds in Episode 5 of Squid Game season 2.
Hyun-Ju and the team tell everyone how it’s done
The team joining the “Six-Legged Pentathlon” competition is made up of Hyun-Ju (Player 120), Park Yong-sik (Player 007), Jang Geum-ja (Player 149), Seon-Nyeo (Player 044), and Player 095. They devise a strategy to win the game, which ultimately proves incredibly inspiring. In the second round, Player 095 takes on Ddakji. Initially, Player 095 faces some difficulty, but Hyun-Ju advises the player to flip the tile’s side and then strike the other tile. Miraculously, this trick succeeds, allowing them to proceed to the next game. The following game is Flying Stone, where Player 007 competes. Unfortunately, on his first attempt, he misses the stone in front of him. Consequently, they pick up the stone and instead of retracing their steps to the original shooting spot, they opt to move backward towards their starting point. This maneuver saves them time and grants them extra time to play the game effectively.
Player 007 quickly wrapped up the current game and advanced to the next one, which was Gong-gi. Player 149 stepped into this game, but didn’t finish it on her initial attempt. However, she kept her cool and eventually played it with confidence. As the competition progressed, both teams won their round and advanced to the following game. Many other teams also moved forward in the tournament, reaching the next round.
As a die-hard film enthusiast, I can’t help but feel the adrenaline pumping as we approach the climax of Sae-Byoung’s epic tale. It’s now or never for Seong Gi-hun and his valiant team. Can they muster the strength and skill to see this game through to the end? The tension is palpable!
How did Gi-hun and the team perform in the game?
In the Six-Legged Pentathlon, it’s down to Gi-hun (Player 456) and his teammates Players 001, 390, 388, and 222 for the final rounds. Jun-hee (Player 222) started off strong by acing Ddakji in a single attempt, while Jung-Bae (Player 390) also did well with his first try at Flying Stone. However, it’s Dae-ho (Player 388) who leaves everyone stunned with his lightning-fast moves during Gong-gi. Unfortunately, things become challenging in the fourth game, The Spinning Top, which is handled by Player 001.
Initially, Player 001 starts off strong but doesn’t manage to win the game in a single attempt. This leads to a continuation of the round, where Player 001 exerts great effort but still fails multiple times. Frustrated, Player 001 criticizes himself, slapping his face and calling himself “useless.” The rest of the team encourages him, reassuring that they won’t hold him responsible for anything. After more attempts, Player 001 finally succeeds in completing the round. With a collective sigh of relief, they advance to the final game known as Jegi. In this game, players aim to keep a paper jegi aloft by kicking it without letting it touch the ground. During the competition, the goal is to kick the jegi five times. Gi-hun’s initial kicks were close to his body for easier follow-ups. However, the fourth kick sent the jegi far away and it seemed like they might lose the game. But in a crucial moment, Player 001 assists Gi-hun by pulling his leg closer to the jegi, ultimately landing the final kick needed to win the round.
Consequently, they successfully finished the game and reached the end point. Regrettably, the other team came up short; they got quite near the end point, but failed to make it within the allotted time, resulting in their immediate elimination at the hands of the guards.
The voting continues and people change
Following the conclusion of the game, another round of voting ensued. However, tensions escalated when Jung-bae and Hyun-Ju switched allegiances and hit the “O” button, causing the game to carry on. Although everyone was displeased with their actions, once Jung-bae and Hyun-Ju explained their motivations, the group started to sympathize with them, albeit hesitantly. Despite this, they had to put their feelings aside and prepare for the next game, which surprisingly turned out to be enjoyable. The upcoming game is titled “Mingle,” where all players will assemble on a rotating platform in the center of the arena. As soon as the game starts, the platform will spin. A number will then be announced, requiring players to form groups that correspond to this number, enter one of the surrounding rooms, and close the door within 30 seconds, or face elimination.
In this game, there could be numerous contestants being ousted since there are 50 arenas and over 250 players still in the competition. By the end of the game, many players will likely be eliminated. It’s intriguing to imagine how alliances will develop and whether anyone would risk sacrificing a fellow player or close ally.
