The popular series Squid Game is set to come back for its grand finale in Season 3. Notable characters who were absent in Season 2 will make their reappearance as well.

Back in 2021, I was utterly captivated when Netflix unveiled Squid Game. Three years later, they dropped the sequel, Squid Game Season 2, and it didn’t disappoint! But, as a dedicated fan, I couldn’t help but miss some familiar faces. Now, a tantalizing teaser for Squid Game Season 3 has surfaced, hinting at their comeback!

A preliminary snapshot of Squid Game Season 3 showcased the Front Man, with a glimpse of the VIPs in the distance, according to ScreenRant. This image spread across the web, with one user posting it on X, formerly Twitter. “Squid game season 3 is approaching soon and I can’t wait! Here are my thoughts: first, the VIPs are coming back; second, Hwang Jun-ho might have discovered the location of Squid Games; third, I believe the person inside that coffin could be jung- bae,” the fan speculated. The VIPs refer to a group of wealthy and masked individuals. They were introduced in Season 1, Episode 7 named “VIPs.” They were depicted as heartless figures who enjoyed the deadly games for amusement. They can be recognized by their golden animal masks and entourage of staff members who cater to their needs.

In simpler terms, the creator and director of the series, Hwang Dong-hyuk, referred to the VIP characters as “the powerful elite, the global CEOs.” He also drew parallels between President Donald Trump and these questionable characters, suggesting that Trump resembles one of the VIPs in the show ‘Squid Game.’ The filmmaker stated, “With Trump becoming the U.S. president, it seems he shares characteristics with a VIP character. It’s almost as if he’s hosting a game show rather than running a country, spreading fear among people.”

The portrayal of the VIP characters in the series received criticism due to poor dialogue and exaggerated acting, making them the least appealing aspects of the popular South Korean survival drama ‘Squid Game.’ However, it was announced that they would be returning for the final season.

In the narrative of Squid Game, the VIPs play a crucial role and their absence in Season 2 was conspicuous. Season 2 primarily focuses on Lee Jung-jae’s character, Gi-hun, reentering the game and offering insights into the outcome of the rebellion he initiated for all involved. With the storyline continuing in Season 3, it’s now crucial to bring back the VIPs as they are pivotal characters. Critics have expressed dissatisfaction with their performances and dialogue in Season 1, but let’s hope for improved writing in the final season. The VIPs should be depicted as both menacing and sophisticated due to their significance in the high-stakes survival games that have been ongoing for years. Given Gi-hun’s resolve to dismantle the game, it is expected that fans will see his confrontation with the VIPs in the final season. Although the specifics of this encounter remain uncertain, if it occurs, it will undoubtedly be part of the climax. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long as the director has announced that the final season is coming “sooner than expected.

Squid Game Season 3 will be released on June 27, 2023.
