The issue stems from the closure of Typhoon Studios in 2021, the developers of “Journey to the Savage Planet”. After this closure, the Typhoon team established Raccoon Logic studio in the same year and secured the rights to the IP (Intellectual Property) for “Revenge of the Savage Planet.

2020 saw the launch of “Journey to the Unruly World,” a game where players traverse the vibrant ARY-26 planet in first-person perspective, identifying diverse flora and fauna. The game was also released on Stadia, but due to Google’s unexpected shutdown of Stadia Games and Entertainment (a division linked with Typhoon), the Stadia port faced abandonment amidst unresolved bugs. After the Typhoon team established Raccoon, work on the sequel titled “Revenge of the Savage World” went on. This upcoming title is set to captivate Xbox users this coming spring, as “Revenge of the Savage World” debuts on Game Pass. The original game, which is already part of Microsoft’s collection, will welcome its successor to the family.

In San Francisco’s Union Square during GDC, a billboard for the game titled “Revenge of the Savage Planet,” displayed by VGC, caught attention. It depicted a character named “Gunther Harrison, CEO of Alta Interglobal,” with an exaggerated skull, which was a jab at former Stadia vice president Phil Harrison. The billboard’s message, “Has a Harrison fired you lately? You might be eligible for emotional support,” seemed to mock Phil Harrison. Despite the developers of “Journey to the Savage Planet” wanting to create a sequel, its development halted when Stadia shut down all their internal development teams, including Typhoon.

Harrison’s reaction to the unexpected shutdown, following closely on the heels of Journey to the Savage Planet‘s unsuccessful debut on Stadia, was met with less than enthusiasm. He stated that the move was “the optimal route for developing Stadia into a long-term, sustainable business that contributes to the growth of the industry.” The developers at Raccoon Logic have recently talked about the gameplay enhancements in Revenge of the Savage Planet, indicating that it will undoubtedly offer more enjoyable action. However, it’s evident that the team’s struggles under Stadia’s management are still a fresh memory.

In the list of most anticipated video games for 2025, Revenge from the Savage Planet finds its place alongside titles such as visually comparable ones like The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed, along with heavy hitters like Ghost of Yotei, Elden Ring: Nightreign, and Grand Theft Auto 6. The game, scheduled for a May 8, 2025 release, is gearing up to face competition from other upcoming releases such as Doom: The Dark Ages and Lost Soul Aside.
