As a hardcore Stalker fan who’s been waiting since the original game’s release, the impending arrival of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl feels like Christmas come early! With its release date finally set, it’s time to dust off my old gear and prepare for another harrowing journey into the Zone.
For the very first time, there’s a definite and attainable launch date for STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl. The game is set to be released in just 13 days from now, following several delays that at one point suggested the game might never see the light of day.
To honor this occasion, the creators at GSC Game World have released a substantial video, offering a glimpse into some crucial gunplay and mechanisms you’ll need to master if you aim to endure within the Zone.
STALKER Gunplay For Dummies
Judging from the recently uploaded sneak peek, the weapon handling in STALKER 2 appears to share a comfortable sense of familiarity with its predecessor’s mechanics.
As a dedicated fan of the Anomaly standalone mod, I’m thrilled to find that the latest game has gone above and beyond by integrating robust reliability and maintenance systems. It’s like being immersed in my own gaming workshop!
In the newly developed game, there appears to be a focus on a general dependability score, which is quite different and less severe compared to the strict “Jack the Ripper” style found in certain modifications.
In older games, ammunition was structured using a multi-layered system. This typically meant that different types of bullets were available – ordinary military rounds for common use, hollow-point bullets for hunting the local wildlife in the Zone, and costly armor-piercing bullets for those excursions further north.
Build-a-Gun
As a gamer, I can’t wait to jump back into the world of STALKER 2! For the first time in the series, I’ll have the freedom to customize my character with fully animated options. It’s going to be a thrill to install a new optic and watch as my character deftly puts it into place, making every playthrough feel unique.
As with past installments of the STALKER series, tech-savvy individuals can perform tweaks on my gear, although it usually comes with a hefty fee. It seems that this time around, they might be offering the chance to install modular rail systems as well.
This will be useful when bringing an old trusty Kalashnikov up to modern standards.
Anomalies
The sound design feels good overall, though based on the AS VAL rifle shown in the video, suppressors do not seem to make a major difference.
It appears that GSC Game World has taken some unconventional decisions about the ammunition types for certain weapons. For instance, the “M701 Super” sniper rifle, which is modeled after the Remington Model 700 in real life, uses the outdated Russian 7.62x54R cartridge rather than the more common .308 NATO.
The video also shows Skif adding an under-barrel shotgun to it. This is a technically feasible but bizarre choice. Then again, being able to send a sneaky pseudodog to an early grave beats convenience or looks.
STALKER 2 will be a day-one Xbox Game Pass release and will launch for both Xbox and PC.
