As a seasoned Stalker, who’s navigated the radioactive wastelands of Chernobyl for countless hours and witnessed more mutant anomalies than I care to remember, I must say that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl has truly outdone itself with its intricate detail and immersive gameplay. One aspect that’s caught the attention of many players is the plethora of PDAs scattered across the desolate landscapes.
In STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl, the game has become more intricate compared to its previous versions, resulting in a variety of items that players may not immediately understand their purpose for. One such item is the numerous PDAs scattered throughout the wasteland, leaving some players puzzled about what they should do with them all.
The problem with PDAs is that they bring useful information, at the cost of taking space in the inventory, and though their weight might seem just a little bit at first, it can become a problem really fast if Stalkers are not aware of the weight limit and its penalties. So, what to do with PDAs? Here’s what players should know.
Where To Leave PDAs?
PDAs come in two types: information and Quest Related. The Information PDAs will automatically send the information to the players own PDA, which will be archived or showcased on the map in the case of Stashes locations. The Quest Related PDA will have a characteristic “brown tick,” on the upper left side, and can be considered a “critical item.” As such, Quest PDAs cannot be left behind, otherwise, they will lock down players from finding important items for Main and Sub Quests. For that reason, they have a “safeguard” system that prevents them from being lost, dropped/sold/deposited.
In the first instance, “Disposable” PDAs can either be securely sold to dealers such as Hamster or Huron for coupons, or if players prefer not to part with these collectibles, they can safely be kept in the Player’s Locker, which is conveniently placed next to every Vendor in all Faction bases.
Remember that PDAs are “automatically scanned” and placed in the Notes section near the Journal Menu, but you can also manually access them to view their contents when picked up. Many of these PDAs contain contextual information, while others may hold secret additional details such as instructions on how to locate hidden stashes, artifacts, or concealed weapons. It’s the players’ responsibility to thoroughly examine each PDA in their inventory and decide for themselves whether the information is relevant or not.
Can I Sell or Store Quest PDAs?
Previously discussed, it’s impossible to keep Quest PDAs. However, once you finish the associated tasks for a specific PDA, it vanishes automatically, freeing up space in your inventory and shedding its weight. In simpler terms, for items like the Brown Tick PDAs, the most effective strategy is to accomplish the quest that gets rid of them, preventing them from causing unnecessary load for our character.
To put it simply, each PDA in the game weighs precisely 0.2 kg. So carrying five of them adds an additional 1 kg to your load. Given that weight can be severely detrimental (especially when you’re running from a horde of enraged mutants), that extra kilogram could make all the difference between survival and peril.
