For the forthcoming season of the “Star Wars” series, they’ve picked a fresh face to play a beloved character that will be familiar to viewers who are fans of “Game of Thrones.

In the series “Star Wars: Ahsoka,” Ahsoka was contrasted with several characters, including Ray Stevenson as a previous Jedi named Baylan Skoll and his pupil Shin Hati (played by Ivanna Sakhno). Ray Stevenson’s portrayal of Baylan Skoll was often lauded as one of the show’s standout performances, but unfortunately, he never lived to witness the acclaim. Tragically, Stevenson passed away in May 2023, around three months before “Ahsoka” premiered on Disney Plus. Since the first season ended with numerous unresolved plot points, the creators of the series faced a challenge in determining how to wrap up Baylan Skoll’s storyline for “Ahsoka” season 2. Given these circumstances, it seems likely that they will recast the role.

According to Jeff Sneider’s latest report (confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter), Rory McCann, known for his role as Sandor Clegane, aka The Hound, in Game of Thrones, will step into the character Baylan Skoll for Ahsoka season 2. However, Lucasfilm has yet to confirm when filming for Ahsoka’s second season will commence. There are whispers that production might start in April 2025. Dave Filoni, who was the showrunner and writer for Ahsoka’s first season, is set to return in these roles for the series’ second installment.

In my perspective, while there were suggestions like Liev Schreiber for the Baylan Skoll role instead of Stevenson, most reactions towards McCann stepping into it have been predominantly favorable. National_Inside7801 commented that McCann was an ideal choice to replace Stevenson but shared a preference for retiring Baylan Skoll’s character and passing his storyline to Shin Hati, portrayed by Sakhno. Some fans felt that Baylan and Shin were on distinct paths, making it inappropriate to alter Shin’s narrative. As ky_eeeee pointed out, Baylan, Ahsoka, and Shin symbolize the Father, Daughter, and Son, respectively. Shin may not realistically carry out the role that Baylan was meant to play in the story, and having both characters is crucial for the trifecta to work effectively.

Beyond his portrayal of The Hound in Game of Thrones, McCann’s involvement in Gladiator 2, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, Jumanji: The Next Level, the Sonic the Hedgehog spinoff series Knuckles, and other action-packed projects with special effects has provided him with a rich background. However, Stevenson’s praised work in Ahsoka and other projects sets a high standard for McCann. Given the positive reactions to his casting, fans are confident that McCann, a friend of Stevenson, will deliver a convincing performance as Baylan Skoll and honor Stevenson’s character.
