Star Wars Battlefront Hopefully Hasn’t Faced the Reaper

Since 2004, when it first began, the Star Wars Battlefront series has whisked players away to the distant galaxies portrayed in the famous Star Wars franchise. Players have had the opportunity to participate in some of the series’ most legendary battles, assume roles as both revered heroes and feared villains, and even attempt to rule the galaxy themselves. It’s been an exhilarating journey for many who find it hard to tear themselves away from its battlefields. Unfortunately, no new mainline Star Wars Battlefront game has been released in recent years, and there appears to be nothing on the horizon at present.

Similar to the gap between the initial release of “Star Wars Battlefront 2” in 2015 and Electronic Arts’ reboot, the series currently seems to be taking a break. Apart from a remake of the original games, players haven’t had much else to engage with. Although it doesn’t appear that this will change imminently, it really ought to. The “Star Wars Battlefront” franchise has produced some exceptional first-person shooter games, and here’s hoping it gets another opportunity to keep delivering such experiences.

The Star Wars Battlefront Series Needs to Live On

Star Wars Battlefront Has Spawned Some Great FPS Titles

The Star Wars Battlefront series made its debut in 2004, immediately gaining widespread acclaim among players. They were thrilled to engage in epic battles on the galaxy’s most famous battlefields, experiencing the authentic Star Wars atmosphere firsthand. In response to this success, developer Pandemic swiftly started working on the sequel, which hit the market just a year later. This follow-up game built upon the strengths of its predecessor and added even more captivating Star Wars elements, resulting in a title that remains highly regarded by many as one of the franchise’s finest offerings to date.

In terms of the main series, a new Star Wars Battlefront game didn’t arrive until 2015, bypassing several spin-offs along the way. Unlike its earlier versions, this one focused solely on the original trilogy and appeared to have several shortcomings. Fortunately, the 2017 release of Star Wars Battlefront 2 made significant improvements and turned out to be a solid first-person shooter game. However, it found itself in the midst of controversy due to its microtransaction system, which ultimately hindered its success. Since its last update in 2020, Electronic Arts has yet to develop anything further with this IP.

It Feels Like a Great Time for Battlefront 3

Following the studio’s decision to eliminate microtransactions from Star Wars Battlefront 2, make numerous updates, and seeing a surge in popularity, this first-person shooter game has turned out to be quite exceptional. In fact, it recently smashed its Steam record for concurrent players. Given the enduring appeal of the Star Wars franchise, it’s reasonable to assume that a Star Wars Battlefront 3 might eventually appear on store shelves. Regrettably, as of now, there appears to be no intention to produce such a game.

As reported by a former employee from DICE, Mats Holm, it seems unlikely that fans will be seeing a new Star Wars Battlefront 3 in the near future. The majority of the original Battlefront 2 team has moved on from the developer.

A third installment of the “Star Wars Battlefront” series could become a massive hit if it manages to nail all its aspects. It should encompass the three trilogies, offer rich content for players to engage with, and steer clear of any microtransaction debates. If the team can achieve this balance and create an engaging experience, fans are likely to embrace it enthusiastically. With the upcoming release of the next “Star Wars” film, there seems to be no better moment than now to launch such a game.

It’s uncertain whether EA has future plans for the Star Wars Battlefront franchise. If not, I hope another studio can pick it up and develop it further. The potential of this concept is too great to be wasted, and with the right team, it could create a magical experience for Star Wars enthusiasts.
