Summary

  • Bit Reactor’s Star Wars strategy game will be revealed on April 19, as part of the Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025 event.
  • The game was originally announced in early 2022 and is believed to have been in the works since late 2021.
  • The Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025 event scheduled confirms that Bit Reactor’s strategy game will be of the turn-based variety.

On April 19th, Bit Reactor’s strategy game based on Star Wars will officially be unveiled, as confirmed by Disney. The timing of this reveal hints that the game might also be showcased during Star Wars Day in 2025, and it further implies that the project is almost ready for release.

Established in 2021, Bit Reactor is a self-governing studio located in Hunt Valley, Maryland, staffed by more than a dozen veterans from Firaxis Games. Their debut project was unveiled towards the end of January 2022, when it was disclosed that they were teaming up with Respawn Entertainment, an affiliate of Electronic Arts, to create an as-yet-unnamed Star Wars strategy game. Since then, the studio based in Maryland has been fairly tight-lipped about this upcoming project.

The much-anticipated quiet spell by Bit Reactor is about to break, as they prepare to unveil their first game in mid-April. This enigmatic title will make its appearance at Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025, a three-day fan event happening at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba City from April 18 to 20. Notably, Bit Reactor’s developer panel is scheduled for April 19, commencing at 4:30pm local time, as per the recently released schedule for the event.

Bit Reactor’s Star Wars Game Should Be Nearing Completion

The Bit Reactor’s Star Wars strategy game, which was officially announced in early 2022, is thought to have been under development since late 2021, when the company was first established. Given that most modern AAA game projects take around five years to complete, this game seems to be nearing its finish line by early 2025. Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025 is expected to unveil the upcoming title initially, but since it’s now ready for showcasing, there’s a chance it might also be highlighted on Star Wars Day, a month afterward.

During an interview with PC Gamer in June 2024, Greg Foertsch, co-founder of Bit Reactor, discussed their upcoming Star Wars strategy title. He expressed that the team intends to create a game that offers depth but is still easy for players to grasp, all while maintaining top-notch quality. Given that many of Bit Reactor’s senior developers have worked on XCOM and Civilization in the past, their new game may attract fans who enjoy these renowned strategy series.

Bit Reactor’s Star Wars Strategy Game Is of the Turn-Based Variety

At the Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025 event schedule, it is noted that Bit Reactor’s forthcoming title will be a turn-based game, which was previously suggested but not explicitly confirmed before. EA’s Respawn Entertainment is involved in the project as a publisher. After launching two Star Wars Jedi games, Respawn allegedly scrapped a Mandalorian FPS in early 2024 due to cost-cutting measures at EA. Bit Reactor characterized this Star Wars project cancellation as a challenging period for the industry, but assured that their own game remained untouched by these developments.
