Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic Is Likely Years Away From Release

A major highlight of this year’s The Game Awards was the announcement of a new single-player Star Wars game, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic. However, despite the excitement, it will probably be quite a while before the game is actually released – likely several years.

A recent interview with StarWars.com revealed that Arcanaut Studios, the team developing the game, was established in 2025.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier shared his thoughts on Bluesky on Friday, suggesting that the game might not be released until 2030 – and even that date could be hopeful. It’s important to remember this is just his personal estimate, not confirmed information.

Games are often announced early in development to demonstrate progress and attract talent. Showing a working version of the game makes it easier for studios to hire new team members.

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is a story-driven action RPG designed for a single player. It doesn’t continue the story from previous games, but it’s being developed by Casey Hudson, who previously directed the original Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect series.

Arcanaut described Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic as a captivating experience with a compelling story, interesting characters, and exciting battles. They highlighted that your choices will significantly impact your path, leading you toward either the light or the dark side.

The game is still very early in development, and we’ll share more details later.
