As a lifelong Star Wars enthusiast and avid gamer, I must say that the introduction of Nix in Star Wars Outlaws has truly revolutionized my gaming experience. While BD-1 from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was undoubtedly a valuable companion, Nix’s versatility and usefulness in the field leave BD-1 feeling a tad outdated.
Following several months of eager waiting, the long-awaited open-world adventure within the Star Wars universe has finally been unveiled, complete with a fresh assortment of captivating characters. Entering the scene is Star Wars Outlaws, a game that introduces players to Kay Vess and a host of criminal underworld figures. Alongside these characters, players will find Nix, an endearing combat ally who, despite his small size, can significantly impact any fight. Similarities between Nix’s abilities and those of another popular Star Wars companion, BD-1, might become apparent to fans of Star Wars Outlaws quite swiftly.
In the game “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order”, the character BD-1 functions as Cal Kestis’ faithful droid sidekick across both titles. He often directs the player, provides aid during challenging situations, and remains a steadfast companion through various hardships. Nevertheless, the droid Nix from “Star Wars: Outlaws” might prove to be more beneficial in the long run.
Star Wars Outlaws’ Nix Truly is a Worthy Companion
Nix Has Proven Extremely Useful in the Field
As Star Wars Outlaws is launched for the first time, players find themselves immediately acquainted with Nix – a pet of Kay Vess who appears to have been extensively trained for various tasks at her beck and call. Similar to BD-1, he will signal players about nearby treasures or intriguing objects. Furthermore, his abilities extend to helping navigate hard-to-reach locations and providing unwavering companionship during the journey. Yet, Nix’s utility extends beyond these functions; moreover, he offers a reliable ally throughout the adventure.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but marvel at the versatility of Nix in “Star Wars Outlaws”. Whether it’s engaging in combat, distracting foes, or carrying out tasks across the galaxy, he’s just a point and click away. All you need to do is indicate where to send him, press the appropriate button, and he’s off like a shot, ready to execute your commands. Be it detonating a barrel, taking down an adversary, activating a switch, or even performing a dance to divert an intimidating enemy, Nix appears to have all the skills in his arsenal. In any situation, Star Wars Outlaws‘ Nix truly proves to be a jack-of-all-trades.
BD-1 Feels Rather Limited in Comparison
BD-1 from Star Wars Jedi is a valuable sidekick, though not quite on par with others. He assists players in discovering hidden items, warns them about various things, and keeps up a steady stream of conversation. Moreover, he offers stim packs and can be enhanced with various tools to aid exploration across the game’s multiple planets. However, his movements are largely controlled by the player, and he doesn’t actively participate in fights without some assistance.
Instead of directly attacking and biting foes, BD-1 can acquire cutting and hacking skills that can influence enemy droids in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. In Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, BD-1 could slice through either Security or Probe Droids. However, in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, he gained the power to slice into a broader range of droids, causing them to turn against their allies. Consequently, although BD-1 may not have been participating in combat, he proved quite effective at enlisting reluctant fighters.
Despite possessing certain skills, there’s a sense that BD-1 could use some improvement compared to Nix. This discrepancy might stem from the limited control players have over BD-1, as they can only guide him towards specific items, whereas they can command Nix to move freely throughout the game world. Add his abilities into the mix, and Nix becomes an exceptional ally that players may remember fondly for a long time. Here’s hoping that his popularity will lead to a more advanced and capable BD-1 in the future third Star Wars Jedi game, making its release even more exciting.
