Star Wars Outlaws Could Craft a Cal Kestis Connection if It Wanted

Highlights

  • Star Wars Outlaws explores the original trilogy era with a scoundrel protagonist in an open-world game.
  • Outlaws may not impact overall canon but could tie into Star Wars Jedi and hopefully give the BX-series droid ND-5 an intriguing backstory.
  • An unlikely yet possible connection between ND-5 and Cal Kestis could add depth to both of their respective franchises.

As a seasoned gamer who’s navigated through countless galaxies far, far away, I can confidently say that the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws has piqued my interest like none other. The prospect of exploring the original trilogy era with a scoundrel protagonist in an open-world game is nothing short of exhilarating.

As a devoted Star Wars fan, I’m thrilled about the prospect of Star Wars Outlaws, a game that delves into the original trilogy era, specifically the timeframe following The Empire Strikes Back. What sets it apart is its focus on crime syndicates controlling the galaxy’s underbelly, areas largely ignored by the Galactic Empire. With a roguish protagonist and an open-world gameplay reminiscent of Grand Theft Auto, it promises an engaging journey into the seedy corners of the Star Wars universe. This will be an exciting foray into the first fully open-world game set in the expansive Star Wars galaxy.

As a die-hard Star Wars fan and gamer, I’m eagerly anticipating my new adventure with the upcoming game, “Star Wars Outlaws.” Similar to Respawn’s “Star Wars Jedi” series, this new title seems destined to fit within the broader IP continuity. However, it doesn’t appear to be substantial enough to alter or spark narrative changes that the overall canon needs to accommodate.

Star Wars Outlaws’ ND-5 Has Some Enigmatic Baggage

Having a BX-series droid like ND-5 alongside protagonist Kay Vess in the series “Star Wars Outlaws” sets up an intriguing history that deepens as the story progresses with their interaction. Initially, ND-5 appears as a mere accessory to Kay, but given his significant presence in promotional materials, it’s safe to assume he will not have a minor role.

As someone who has been a longtime fan of the Star Wars universe, I am genuinely excited about the introduction of ND-5, the droid character, in the upcoming series “Star Wars Jedi.” Having grown up watching the Clone Wars and witnessing the evolution of droids from loyal soldiers to independent beings, I find it fascinating to see how a once-loyal clone wars commando like ND-5 could transform into a criminal enforcer. The visual representation of an open wound on his chest serves as a powerful symbol, possibly indicating how he gained his autonomy and perhaps even hinting at the burden of debt he carries for working involuntarily for Jaylen Vrax.

How ND-5 Could Be a Link Between Star Wars Jedi and Star Wars Outlaws

In the world of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, if ND-5 isn’t extensively fixed up to mend himself, it’s highly unlikely that I, as Cal Kestis, would have come across such a droid in battle – that would imply I might’ve destroyed it. Instead, there’s a chance ND-5 could recall encountering me during the events of Survivor, or alternatively, we may meet again in the future third installment of Star Wars Jedi, where our potential meeting could serve as an origin story for both of us.

Just as the character of the previously unnamed surgeon links The Last of Us’ first and second installments, it could be amazing if the BX droid Cal encountered in the Star Wars Jedi series turned out to be ND-5 in Outlaws. This connection might be feasible due to the long history of BX droids, but it remains highly improbable that Ubisoft and Respawn would deliberately create such a link between their separate Star Wars franchises.

Despite ND-5 being far from Cal or any planets Cal visited, it’s clear he has an extraordinary past. “Outlaws” may choose to delve into and depict this intriguing history. It’s unusual for a droid character not to be relegated to a mere cute sidekick in “Star Wars,” so Ubisoft should handle ND-5 with respect, giving him the attention he deserves.
