Star Wars Outlaws DLC is Right to Sing Kessel Sabaccs Praises

As someone who’s spent countless hours immersed in the vast galaxies of open-world games, I can confidently say that the upcoming DLC for Star Wars Outlaws, Wild Card, is a beacon of hope amidst the current state of Massive’s Star Wars epic. The game has had a rocky start, but the prospect of more content, particularly focusing on the intricate and engaging Sabacc mini-game, has me genuinely excited.

It’s been announced that the game “Star Wars Outlaws” will debut on Steam on November 21, and this launch will coincide with the game’s first season pass story expansion, Wild Card. The fate of “Star Wars Outlaws” beyond these DLCs is uncertain, so if you’re a fan or have been wanting to try it out, now might be the perfect time before it potentially gets put on hold indefinitely.

It’s unfortunate that Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars game, Massive’s Outlaws, seems to have underperformed compared to their expectations. In response, they have outlined a post-launch update plan and expressed their intentions to enhance the gaming experience. Given the game’s intricate open world, this decision could be seen as daring. However, two upcoming downloadable content packs are generating enthusiasm, particularly Wild Card which focuses on one of the game’s standout aspects – Kessel Sabacc.

Sabacc Stands Out in an Open-World Star Wars Game Packed with Content

In many open-world games, including The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, supplementary mini-games have evolved from an entertaining extra feature to a fully integrated part of the gameplay experience, especially when they incorporate collectibles and related side quests. Sabacc, the in-universe card game found in Outlaws, follows this trend. Players can not only engage in this poker-like mini-game reminiscent of Sabacc, but also gather shift tokens as they explore the game’s open world.

Kay Vess can also gamble at fathier races or play numerous arcade games in her travels on any remote planet, but Sabacc is fully intricate and even has a cheating feature tied to Expert skill tree unlocks.

In this game, you can gain the chance to perform a Quick-Time Event (QTE) by successfully rolling dice provided by a Jawa named Teeka, for instance. After that, you can employ a ‘skifter’ to influence the outcome of the roll in your favor. Prior to utilizing shift tokens and understanding their passive or active effects, there are several aspects to grasp such as sand and blood cards affecting die rolls related to Imposter cards, a Sylop card ensuring a Sabacc pair with any other card you hold, and more.

Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card Couldn’t Be Coming at a Better Time

By the end of November, Wild Card will make its appearance, leaving only a short span since the initial release of the base game. Given the limited objectives in Sabacc once players wrap up the main storyline, it’s fantastic that we don’t have much longer to wait for additional content.

As a gamer diving into Star Wars Outlaws, I found that the Expert quests are enticing from the get-go, but not everyone might prioritize them right away. If you’re hopping from planet to planet instead of settling down on one for an extended exploration spree, it could take significantly longer to track down Experts and eventually unlock their skill tree, which requires completing preliminary challenges, achievements, and gathering specific items first.

Once players have acquired both of the hidden shortcuts for extra-curricular activities and gathered all additional move counters, it’s unlikely they will encounter a Sabacc game they haven’t already mastered.

Sabacc certainly isn’t scarce in the galaxy, but there is little reason to play a table more than once because players are only gifted a unique reward when they initially win, leaving only a meager amount of credits to win thereafter. Plus, if it’s credits players seek, they’d be better off pursuing them during more fruitful endeavors such as Star Wars Outlaws’ syndicate-crossing contracts. Wild Card will presumably provide many more tables to compete at, and if new cheats or shift tokens are debuted it’ll be phenomenal to resuscitate that collectible pursuit and layer Sabacc with even more gameplay nuance.
