Star Wars Outlaws MT-7 Quest is a Heartbreaking Display of Humanity

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Star Wars Outlaws has been one heck of a rollercoaster ride for me. The game’s plot might not be as tight as a Wookiee’s grip, but it truly shines when you decide to explore the galaxy at your own pace.

Star Wars Outlaws shines brightest when players choose their own adventure, deviating from the main storyline and freely exploring each planet using a compass for navigation. As they wander, they’ll encounter points of interest marked with question marks and tiny dots above specific NPCs who can be conversed with. The intel gathered will guide them throughout the open-world expanse of Star Wars Outlaws in the galaxy, but the joy of uncovering it themselves is a delightful experience that should not be hurried. However, while open exploration is essentially accessible from the moment Kay Vess and Nix arrive on Toshara and jump onto their speeder, players will likely want to tackle and advance Expert quests as soon as they can.

Instead of waiting until players actively search for them, some experts can only be accessed once players visit their respective planets. Therefore, it’s more productive and beneficial for players to explore each planet immediately upon arrival rather than spending excessive time on a single planet before moving on. While many experts offer forgettable or menial quests, their skills are valuable in the long run. On the other hand, Expert MT-7 and his quest on Akiva stand out for their rich lore, powerful abilities, and the most impactful emotional moment in the entire game.

Star Wars Outlaws’ MT-7 is a Sad Relic of the Clone Wars’ Devastation

Every “Star Wars Outlaws” Master has a mission to undertake that reveals their unique skill and talent set upon completion, and MT-7’s is titled “The Veteran.” Players might confuse the fuzzy hologram image of the droid on the Expert screen with ND-5 before they start this quest or recognize its associated NPC, as players may not anticipate encountering another BX Commando.

There’s an interesting backstory connected to MT-7, similar to ND-5, both originating from the Clone Wars 25 years ago. This raises the question as to why MT-7 is stationary and unable to move. Despite appearing barely functional, MT-7 consistently refutes suggestions that he’s physically damaged. As players uncover more details, they learn that MT-7 has been stranded there since his arrival, trapped by a monsoon that devastated the site.

In a heartfelt gesture during a poignant side mission in Star Wars Outlaws, Kay and ND-5 reassure the damaged BX-series Commando droid, MT-7, that his mission was successful. ND-5 even claims to be sending General Grievous’ personal commendations for MT-7’s heroic actions. Although this praise is false, it offers solace and dignity to MT-7 as he prepares to shut down, adding a profound emotional depth to the story.

In an unexpectedly open display, MT-7 requests permission to express itself freely first, eventually confessing its malfunction in a striking moment of vulnerability.

Star Wars Outlaws is Further Evidence of How Special Droids Can Be as Characters

Characters from the Star Wars universe have often displayed human-like traits, such as B1 battle droids who exhibit a childish curiosity and humor or companion droids demonstrating loyalty and empathy towards their traveling companions. Even utility droids like GNK power droids show distinct personalities. For example, BD-1 in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order brings much joy, while ND-5, though portrayed as emotionless in Outlaws, surprisingly shows deep feelings through his words and actions, even when under control of a restraining bolt.

In Star Wars Outlaws, it’s clear that ND-5 will win us over with his charm by the end of the game, even though he comes off as chilly and indifferent at first. Yet, this icy demeanor adds an extra layer of thrill to the nail-biting chase scenes where ND-5 becomes the hunter. His interaction with MT-7, particularly how he handles their situation, is a testament to his inherent goodness. It also highlights MT-7’s deep-seated wish to prove his worth as a soldier in the Clone Wars, a desire that stems from his programming and fear of disappointing his superiors and comrades.
