As a long-time Star Wars fan and avid gamer, I was thrilled when Ubisoft announced Star Wars Outlaws during their Summer Game Fest showcase. The game’s promotional campaign had me hooked with its Mass Effect and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey inspirations, and the promise of an open-world exploration experience in the epic space franchise was too enticing to pass up.
At Ubisoft’s Summer Game Fest, Star Wars Outlaws’ promotional campaign left a strong impression on gamers. However, a recent 10-minute sneak peek raised concerns among fans, who felt it fell short of expectations. Nevertheless, the publisher assures us that top-notch content is in store before the game hits the shelves. Drawing inspiration from Mass Effect and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Outlaws aims to be an enjoyable addition to the iconic Star Wars gaming universe.
As a gamer, I’m excited about the wanted system in this game that reminds me of Grand Theft Auto, adding an extra layer of challenge for those trying to evade the Empire and Syndicates roaming the open world. However, I can’t help but feel uneasy after watching recent gameplay clips with less-than-impressive visuals. Devs have been keeping us on our toes with intriguing new characters like Kay Vess, but I hope they step up their game to deliver a visually stunning experience.
Ubisoft Lead Teases More Star Wars Outlaws Footage to Silence “Dated” Criticisms
IGN recently gave an exclusive sneak peek into a new mission lasting ten minutes, where the protagonist Kay traverses a Sarlacc pit and infiltrates a bandit camp. However, this preview sparked considerable criticism on social media. Many users voiced their disappointment over what they considered outdated graphics and hollow surroundings. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding textures, cutscenes, and stealth techniques employed in the gameplay.
In response to the feedback, Ubisoft’s CFO Frederick Duguet spoke with PC Gamer, assuring them that they can look forward to more detailed content with plenty of exploration hours in the open world, which is a significant aspect of the game’s promise to offer an immersive experience in the galaxy with multiple planets. In other words, players can anticipate high-quality additions that will showcase the depth and richness of the game’s open world.
In response to fan concerns about the subpar graphics depicted in the sneak peek, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot reassured, “As we’ve mentioned for Star Wars, the standard of the game world and overall experience is truly exceptional.” The publishing company remains confident that fans will be satisfied once the product goes live next month. Additionally, Guillemot expressed, “We’re maximizing our engine’s capabilities, and I believe people will be thrilled by it.”
When inquired about potentially postponing Outlaws beyond its August release, considering the underwhelming feedback from the extended sneak peek, Duguet replied, “The game has reached its final production stage and is now gold, hence the August 30th launch date is set in stone.”
Based on the significant criticism directed towards the promotional video featuring Outlaws in Ubisoft’s upcoming game, it seems that Ubisoft holds a strong belief in the excellence of the final product and the superior quality of the additional footage they have prepared.
Star Wars Outlaws is scheduled for release on August 30, 2024.
