The creator of Stardew Valley, ConcernedApe, recently hinted that updates about the game’s future are coming soon. Since its release in 2016, Stardew Valley has become a hugely popular indie game, and with its 10-year anniversary approaching, fans are eager to find out what’s next for it.
Last year brought a huge update – version 1.6 – to Stardew Valley, adding new festivals, character interactions, a mastery system, and a new farm type. Players immediately wondered if there would be a 1.7 update as well, and ConcernedApe confirmed it in August. The release date for 1.7 remained unknown, though. Fans have also been eagerly awaiting a version of Stardew Valley for the Switch 2. Nintendo previously stated it would arrive in Fall 2025, but it hasn’t happened yet. However, ConcernedApe says news about the Switch 2 port is coming very soon.
Stardew Valley’s Switch 2 Port is Closer to Becoming Reality, While Update 1.7 Makes Some Exciting Changes
So, people have been asking me about the Stardew Valley Switch 2 port, and I saw ConcernedApe tweeted a little update! He said he’ll announce something “very soon,” which is exciting! Nintendo has hinted the Switch 2 would be out by Fall 2025, and we’re almost at the end of the season, so “soon” could mean any day now, or maybe a few weeks or months – it’s hard to say! But it sounds like those of us waiting to play on the Switch 2 might not have much longer to wait. This port is supposed to be a big upgrade – it’ll have GameShare, 4-player split-screen, and even let you use the Joy-Cons like a mouse, which a lot of us think is the best way to play!
ConcernedApe Shares Details About Update 1.7
ConcernedApe recently responded to a question on Twitter about the upcoming 1.7 update for Stardew Valley, revealing that it will include more characters and new farming content. He also suggested a new farm type might be added, as that’s become a tradition with updates. While he didn’t share many specifics just yet, he promised more details when the time is right. Unfortunately, there was no news about his next game, Haunted Chocolatier. Announced in 2021, updates on that project have been infrequent as ConcernedApe continues to focus his time and energy on Stardew Valley.

- Stardew Valley turns 10 on February 26.
There aren’t currently any announced plans to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Stardew Valley, but February 26, 2026, would be a great time for some news. That would be an ideal date to share updates on things like the Switch 2 version, the 1.7 update, or even Haunted Chocolatier. While ConcernedApe’s future plans for Stardew Valley are still a secret, that just makes fans even more eager to find out what’s next. With a few weeks left in the year, there’s still a chance the Switch 2 edition could be released before 2024 ends, and ConcernedApe’s recent comments suggest it’s closer to happening than ever.
