The creator of Stardew Valley, ConcernedApe, has given an update on the game’s performance on both Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. He’s assured players that despite the busy holiday season, any bugs are being fixed quickly, as fans would expect.
Stardew Valley initially launched in 2016 and has been significantly updated and improved ever since. Although the developer is now primarily working on a new game called Haunted Chocolatier, Stardew Valley still receives updates that address issues, enhance gameplay, and introduce fresh content. The game arrived on Nintendo Switch in 2017, and fans with the new Switch 2 console were excited to find that Stardew Valley was available to play on it this Christmas.

Players who recently got the new Switch 2 were excited to play Stardew Valley, but quickly ran into a problem: online co-op wasn’t working on either the Switch 2 or the original Nintendo Switch. The game’s creator, ConcernedApe, quickly responded, taking responsibility and promising a fix. Just nine hours after acknowledging the issue on Twitter, he announced that a patch was released, resolving the online play problem.
Since Christmas, players have been experiencing more than just one issue with the game. In a recent update, the developer, ConcernedApe, confirmed they’re looking into several other problems and will release patches to fix them as needed. While the specific issues weren’t detailed, players have been reporting problems themselves. Some players have noticed that crafting is incorrectly using items that aren’t required for recipes – one even lost their Horse Whistle, and another lost a recently found Skeletal Hand. Others have reported that their right controller keeps trying to switch to mouse mode while the game is running, making it difficult to play.
Stardew Valley Has Problems on Switch, But Fans Praise Developer
It’s normal for players to get upset with game developers when a game has major issues, but that hasn’t happened with Stardew Valley. Instead, the community has been overwhelmingly supportive of ConcernedApe, thanking him for his work and downplaying the recent problems. This is surprising because broken co-op and crafting features would normally be a big deal in a game like this. However, ConcernedApe has earned the community’s respect and trust over the years by consistently providing free updates and quickly fixing any issues that arise. The fact that he released a patch to address the biggest problem on Christmas Day really shows how much he cares, and the community clearly appreciates it.
Even after fixing the current issues, the creator of Stardew Valley isn’t finished with the game yet. He’s hinted at a 1.7 update, though we don’t know when it will be released. Based on how he’s handled updates in the past, he’ll probably share more details about the new content gradually. So, fans should keep an eye out for announcements. The game is currently experiencing some performance issues on Nintendo Switch, but those problems should be fixed soon.
