The developers have been dropping hints, and the hype is real. We’re all just hoping our favorite villager gets a little something new!
Despite working on his new game, Haunted Chocolatier, the creator of Stardew Valley continues to update and improve the original game with both small bug fixes and brand new content. Stardew Valley has grown a lot over time, and the upcoming 1.7 update will add even more to the experience. Players are now sharing what kinds of characters they’d like to see as potential marriage partners in the game.
Stardew Valley Fans Share Romance Hopes
Fans of Stardew Valley are excited about the potential new marriage options coming in the 1.7 update and are already debating who they’d like to romance. Currently, the game has 12 marriage candidates – six men and six women. While it’s possible the update will add two completely new characters, many players are hoping that existing characters who aren’t currently romance options will become available as potential spouses.
Many players have expressed a strong desire to have romantic relationships with characters like the Wizard, Marlon, Willy, and Sandy in the game. Because these characters are so well-liked, fans have already made mods that allow players to date them and other characters who aren’t normally romance options. However, players would be thrilled if the game’s developers officially added this feature for these NPCs.
Some players are hoping for even more complex relationship options in the game, beyond just finding single partners. The game’s creator, ConcernedApe, has previously said he had to cut some relationship features, including a plan to let players break up existing couples. Hints within the game suggest Robin isn’t happy in her marriage to Demetrius, and players who are interested in romancing either of them are excited about the possibility of this feature being added in the upcoming 1.7 update.
ConcernedApe’s comments suggest that fans hoping to romance Robin and Demetrius might get their wish. However, several other characters currently unavailable for romance could also be considered. Clint and Sandy are strong possibilities, especially if the game continues to have an equal number of available male and female partners. Clint has a crush on Emily, but she doesn’t reciprocate, which is a bit awkward considering Emily wasn’t a romance option at the game’s launch and was added later. Making Clint a romance option could address this. Many players also want to see Sandy’s story expanded and would like her to return to town to spend more time with Emily.
As a huge Stardew Valley fan, I’m really excited for the next big update, but ConcernedApe hasn’t given us a release date yet, so we might be waiting a while to meet those new potential spouses! The good news is he is planning to reveal the new marriage candidates on February 26th – it’s the game’s 10th anniversary! But don’t expect a full rundown of everything coming in update 1.7. ConcernedApe likes to keep things a surprise, so I think a lot of the new content will stay under wraps until we can actually jump in and play it ourselves.
