In addition to tending to farms and growing crops, the beloved game Stardew Valley offers a variety of other pastimes for its players. These include fishing and mining, which can be honed over time as players learn to catch bigger fish and mine more valuable resources within the game world of Stardew Valley.

In Stardew Valley, I’ve discovered that the mines under my farm are a treasure trove of rugged rock and patchy dirt. With my trusty Pickaxe in hand, I chisel away at these rocks, revealing various ores, stones, and the enigmatic Geodes. Geodes are like hidden time capsules, filled with all sorts of artifacts and basic resources. The excitement lies in never knowing exactly what treasure awaits me within one – it’s a delightful element of mystery that keeps me coming back for more!

How to Get Geodes in Stardew Valley

Players might initially discover a geode while they’re cracking stones on their farm, as an oval object will fall out accompanied by a message indicating that the village blacksmith is capable of opening it for them.

As a passionate enthusiast, I’ve discovered that geodes, these fascinating mineral formations, can be obtained in multiple ways. You might stumble upon them while cracking open rocks deep within the Mines, or perhaps you’ll be lucky enough to have a Duggie, an intriguing foe from the Mines, drop one for you – there’s a 25% chance of this happening. Additionally, geodes can appear as prizes in Fishing Treasure Chests, and they could even make their way into your inventory during the magical Feast of the Winter Star!

In Stardew Valley, you can also find Geodes by fishing. When the number of Stonefish in your Fish Pond hits 9, it might produce either 1 or 5 Common Geodes. For players who haven’t upgraded their Farmhouse yet, Geodes can be discovered within the Supply Crates on the Beach Farm.

All Types of Geodes and Where to Find Them

Four kinds of Geodes exist: Banded, Ovoid, Honeycomb, and Obelisk. All of them are discovered in varying depths across various mine levels.

Common Geodes

On mine-adventuring expeditions from Levels 1 through 39, you’ll often stumble upon these spherical geode formations. To crack open any rocks you encounter, be it with a trusty Pickaxe or dynamite bombs, is essential. These common geodes hide treasure troves of artifacts, minerals, and fundamental resources like Stone, Clay, and Coal.

Iron Ore can be obtained from a Geode after players reach Level 26 of the Mines.

Omni Geodes

geodes called Omnis, adorned with vibrant specks, are typically found in mines on levels 21 and higher, as well as throughout the Skull Cavern on all floors. By defeating a Carbon Ghost, there’s a 99% chance of obtaining these Omni Geodes. On Wednesdays, players can buy three Omnis from the Oasis for 1000 gold coins each. Alternatively, one can be bought from Krobus’s Shop on Tuesdays for 300 gold.

Furthermore, when the octopus fish tank population hits 9, it may produce either 1, 3, or 10 mysterious Omni Geodes. It’s important to note that players cannot obtain a “Prismatic Shard” gem before they have cracked at least 15 of these geodes.

Frozen Geodes

Geodes frozen into triangular shapes are predominantly discovered from Levels 41 to 79 within the Mines, where the motif is centered around a “Frozen World” theme. During winter on the Farm, these geodes can be unearthed, and they can also appear inside Fishing Treasure Chests or be presented as gifts during the Feast of the Winter Star celebration.

  • When the population of an Ice Pip Fish Pond reaches 9, it may produce 1 or 5 Frozen Geodes.
  • A Frozen Geode may contain a rare foraged mineral, namely the “Frozen Tear”, although the chances for that are slim.

Gold Ore can be obtained from a Frozen Geode only after the players reach Level 76 of the Mines.

Common Geodes

Besides discovering them in ancient mines, you can also obtain Common Geodes from Duggies, fishing treasure chests, and sometimes even from supply crates on the Beach Farm, provided that the farmhouse hasn’t been upgraded yet.

Omni Geodes

In the 1.6 update, players now have additional methods to acquire Omni Geodes, making them easier to find. Here’s a rundown of the new acquisition techniques for these geodes:

The 1.6 update introduces multiple new avenues for players to secure Omni Geodes, making them more readily available. Let me walk you through the updated methods for obtaining these geodes:

  • Trout Derby Reward: During the new Trout Derby festival in the summer, one of the possible prizes is 3 Omni Geodes.
  • Prize Machine Reward: The new Prize Machine, located in ‘ house and fueled by tickets earned from completing quests and special orders, offers 8 Omni Geodes as the 18th prize.
  • Meteorite Drops: Breaking a meteorite that lands on the farm now has a chance to drop Omni Geodes.
  • Iridium Golem Drops: After reaching Combat Level 5, Iridium Golems in the Skull Cavern now have a chance to drop Omni Geodes.

Frozen Geodes

In Stardew Valley, Frozen Geodes are usually mined at intermediate levels within the Mines, but you can also obtain them during the Desert Festival by exchanging them for 10 Calico Eggs.

Magma Geodes

Red-hot Magma Geodes are discoverable from levels 81 to 119 within The Mines. You might also stumble upon them by shattering crates and barrels in the Skull Cavern.

  • Magma Geodes can also be received as gifts at the Feast of the Winter Star and are found in Fishing Treasure Chests too.
  • A Fish Pond containing at least 9 Lava Eels can produce 5 Magma Geodes, while 10 can be obtained from a pond containing 10 fish.
  • Magma Geodes may contain Fire Quartz, a rare crystal found near hot lava. Although the odds of players obtaining this are quite low.

At Level Six in the Mining game, players gain access to explosive items known as Bombs. These Bombs aid in quickening the process of breaking minerals found within the Mines.

What to Do with Geodes in Stardew Valley

To discover what’s inside a Geode, it needs to be broken open. You can take your Geode to the local Blacksmith for help – Clint will crack it open for 25 gold pieces. If you prefer, you can construct your own Geode Crusher by gathering 2 Gold Bars, 50 Stones, and 1 Diamond. After completing Clint’s special mission titled “Cave Patrol”, you’ll learn this crafting recipe.

In Stardew Valley, as a gamer, I’ve found that I can ask for different types of Geodes from the local raccoon – Common, Frozen, or Magma. These requests are all part of an exciting new questline where I assist the raccoon and his family in making their new home in the Valley comfortable.

Geodes found commonly are priced at 50 units each, frozen geodes cost 100 units, magma geodes go for 150 units. Interestingly, omni geodes have no listed price.
