Having traversed through countless virtual realms, from the perilous lands of Hyrule to the futuristic metropolis of Cyberpunk, there’s nothing quite like returning home to the serene and inviting world of Stardew Valley.

In a recently conducted study, Stardew Valley emerged as the standout choice for effectively alleviating stress. It narrowly edged past competitors such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons and A Short Hike to claim the number one position, earning a comforting score of 9.4 out of 10.

Since its release in 2016, Stardew Valley has been carefully nurtured by a single developer, ConcernedApe, who infuses it with unbridled enthusiasm, making it the undeniably coziest farming game to grace our screens.

The study, which was completed by Northerner, aimed to determine the best game for reducing stress.

After examining 20 games, it compiled and averaged their review scores from multiple platforms such as Metacritic, OpenCritic, and SteamDB. Before being classified as ‘cozy’, each game had to meet certain initial requirements.

As a gamer, I can tell you that Stardew Valley ruled the roost in my gaming world, but there were some other noteworthy titles like Coral Island, Disney Dreamlight Valley, New Pokémon Snap, and Donut County. However, Cozy Grove, sitting at the bottom of the table with a score of 3.7 out of 10, didn’t quite measure up to Stardew Valley’s almost perfect rating.

Stardew Valley is widely acclaimed, consistently ranking high among Steam’s best-loved games. With a staggering 698,000 reviews, it boasts an ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ rating, and a whopping 97.6% of these reviews are favorable. It trails only Portal 2 in the top spot, which has a slightly higher positive rating of 97.7%.

It comes down to the wire between these games.

In third place sits People Playground with 97.4% positive reviews.

During the chilly winter season, folks search near and far for comforting, warm-hearted games to enjoy, and it turns out that Stardew Valley is the top choice among them all.
