Okay, so I’ve been playing Stardew Valley for ages, and apparently the creator, ConcernedApe (Eric Barone), hid a secret so well he’s starting to think no one will ever find it! He’s added tons of little things over the years, which is why the game is still so popular, but this one… he’s actually worried it’s so obscure, or maybe even outdated now, that it’s just going to remain a mystery forever. It’s kinda cool knowing there’s still something undiscovered out there, even after all this time!
Released almost 10 years ago on February 26, 2016, Stardew Valley has become a hugely successful indie farming and life simulation game, selling over 41 million copies as of December 2024. The developer, Eric Barone, continues to add free content, keeping players engaged. Despite working on his next game, Haunted Chocolatier, Barone says he still has more ideas for improving Stardew Valley and making it even more enjoyable.
ConcernedApe Says There’s Still One Stardew Valley Secret Left to be Found
Despite new content being planned for Stardew Valley, the creator, Eric Barone, says players haven’t discovered everything hidden within the game after nearly ten years. In a recent interview with IGN, he confirmed that at least one secret Easter egg remains undiscovered. While it’s hard to know for sure with so many players, secrets usually surface quickly within the dedicated Stardew Valley community, and Barone hasn’t heard of anyone finding it yet, suggesting it’s been hidden for a long time.
Image via ConcernedApe As a big fan, I was really curious about this hidden content Barone was talking about! He’s hesitant to share too much, but it sounds like it’s an old in-game message. It’s different from the Secret Notes we got in the 1.3 update – those give hints about gifts and hidden items. This message seems to have originally announced a new feature, but he ended up changing plans, so the feature never happened! He said it’s still hidden in the game, but he’s not even sure anyone will ever find it because it’s so well hidden. It’s amazing to think there are still secrets out there in Stardew Valley!
Image via ConcernedApe Concerned about how this secret message stayed hidden for so long, the game’s creator, Barone, hinted it wasn’t simply buried within the game’s programming code. He suggested the message might be concealed within the game’s artwork, which is much harder to analyze than code. He explained that secrets hidden in images are significantly more difficult for players to uncover through datamining.
Given how dedicated the Stardew Valley community is, that recent comment will likely inspire players to meticulously examine the game, searching for any hidden message the creator, Barone, might have left behind – and how long it’s been hidden. Although he’s unsure if he’ll ever reveal this secret, Barone intends to continue sharing updates on Haunted Chocolatier, which is currently his main focus, as well as ongoing updates for Stardew Valley. He’s now taking on a more leadership role, overseeing his growing development team.
