It turns out that Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone, the mastermind behind Stardew Valley, has been grappling with similar thoughts – however, he finds himself in a dilemma regarding this idea. An interesting twist is that refining an already cherished game can be less challenging and even more enjoyable than constructing a completely new one from the ground up!

Barone stated during an interview with TigerBelly that “Every major system is already completed.” He further explained that the not-so-exciting tasks such as updates involve adding various elements here and there, including something like ‘green rain’, which are spontaneous, creative ideas.

According to IGN, Barone’s recent game development project, Haunted Chocolatier, represents an effort to explore new creative territories. Barone aims to move beyond his reputation as the creator of Stardew Valley, and escaping the influence of that game is not a simple endeavor.

The game “Haunted Chocolatier,” which ConcernedApe continues to develop, currently does not have a fixed release date. Although details about the game can be found on its official website, progress is being made gradually rather than quickly.

In his latest update, Barone expresses that Stardew Valley, a widely-loved game, holds significant personal meaning for him. He also feels a deep responsibility towards the countless players who have supported the game throughout its years, giving him the unique privilege of being an independent game developer.

It’s tough to step away from Stardew Valley, however briefly, to focus on a new project that doesn’t have the same level of familiarity or significance for others.

Regardless of his aspirations for diversification, the charm of Stardew Valley remains difficult to resist. It appears that updates are the format he’s most at ease with, but the prospect of a follow-up game is definitely on the table.

In the TigerBelly interview, Baronne casually mentions the possibility of developing Stardew Valley 2. He explains that it’s simpler for him to expand upon Stardew Valley by adding new features rather than creating an entirely new game from the ground up.

Given the current development schedules, it seems that a potential Stardew Valley 2 might be quite some distance off – even if it does eventually come to fruition as a real project.
