Stardew Valley’s 1.7 Update Hopefully Won’t Make a Mountain Out of a Molehill

In November, Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone unveiled the eagerly awaited 1.6 update for Stardew Valley on home consoles following numerous months of intense work. While many people were surprised by the time it took to port this update, even ConcernedApe himself underestimated the complexity. In a Twitter post, he admitted that the task of transferring the 1.6 update to PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch was so challenging that he had to put his work on Haunted Chocolatier on hold for several weeks. Now that Stardew Valley’s update has been released on all platforms, ConcernedApe can resume development of his next project. However, it doesn’t mean he’s completely stepping away from Stardew Valley.

At the Stardew Valley concert recently, ConcernedApe revealed that work on a 1.7 update for Stardew Valley has begun. Although he didn’t give a specific or predicted release date for this upcoming upgrade, ConcernedApe firmly confirmed that it would be released at some point. While it’s wonderful that new content is still being developed for Stardew Valley almost a decade after its launch, ConcernedApe should manage fans’ expectations if the update isn’t very extensive, to prevent disappointment when it eventually arrives.

Stardew Valley’s Getting a New Update Soon, But It May Not Be that Big

At present, there’s no verified information about what the 1.7 update for Stardew Valley contains. Given that the 1.6 update didn’t bring many significant new features compared to earlier game patches, it’s plausible that the 1.7 update might be relatively modest in terms of content. This wouldn’t be unexpected, considering ConcernedApe seems to prioritize releasing Haunted Chocolatier as quickly as possible. As a result, he may temporarily shift his focus from further Stardew Valley development towards Haunted Chocolatier. Unlike the 1.6 update, the release of Stardew Valley’s 1.7 update shouldn’t significantly delay the development timeline for Haunted Chocolatier.

The “Ghostly Chocolate Maker” has been under development for approximately five years now, yet it remains far from completion.

Unlike With Update 1.6, ConcernedApe Won’t Be that Involved in Update 1.7’s Development

On the official website for Haunted Chocolatier, ConcernedApe announced that he won’t be heavily involved in the creation of Stardew Valley’s next update, version 1.7. Instead, a group of other developers will lead the development, with ConcernedApe taking on the role of creative director. As they work on Stardew Valley, ConcernedApe intends to focus solely on developing Haunted Chocolatier for the time being.

Even If Update 1.7 Isn’t Big, Stardew Valley Will Still Get a Lot More Content in the Future

Although Update 1.7 for Stardew Valley may not seem too expansive given ConcernedApe’s limited participation, fans can look forward to more exciting additions down the line. Despite devoting nearly his entire professional life to this project, ConcernedApe has expressed a strong desire to keep creating fresh content for Stardew Valley. In fact, he declared earlier this year that retirement is not on his horizon and may even consider enhancing the game with new features half a century from now.

ConcernedApe’s Consistent Support for Stardew Valley May Make Players More Lenient to a Smaller-Scale 1.7 Update

Stardew Valley, an outstanding indie game with numerous features, might not require additional updates, but its developers, ConcernedApe and his team, are dedicated to continuing support for the game. Even though future major updates may not be as extensive as some fans anticipate, fans could likely understand if the developers don’t deliver a massive update, given their impressive history. However, we’ll see in the future whether this assumption proves accurate.
