A new update for Starfield is coming soon to fix performance and stability issues, especially on the PlayStation 5. The update will also improve the game on Xbox Series X/S and PC. Bethesda is continuing to work on making Starfield more stable on PS5 with this latest patch.
After over two years since its first release, Starfield became available on PlayStation 5 on March 17th. The game arrived with a new content update called Free Lanes on April 7th. Originally released only for Xbox, the space RPG from Bethesda had been the subject of rumors about a PlayStation 5 version for months, and its launch on the new console hasn’t been without issues.
Yet Another Starfield Stabilization Patch Is on the Way
Since launching on PlayStation 5, Starfield has received two updates focused on improving its performance. Bethesda is planning a third update the week of May 10th, addressing crashes, stability issues, and some gameplay problems. Unlike the previous two updates which were only for PS5, this one will also be released for Xbox Series X/S and PC versions of the game. Full details on the update will be available when it’s released.

Since its release on PS5, Starfield has been plagued by frequent crashes. Players initially reported the game freezing or crashing every few minutes, requiring a full restart. These issues were common across both the regular PS5 and the PS5 Pro, and the cause remained unclear despite widespread reports within the PlayStation community.
Players on PS5 have reported that crashes are happening less often after the latest two updates, suggesting Bethesda has improved the game’s stability. However, the game still occasionally freezes. While the next update will be for all platforms, Bethesda is likely prioritizing fixing the remaining issues on PS5. This is especially true considering the PS5 version of Starfield includes unique features like adaptive trigger support, quick menu access via the DualSense controller, and enhanced graphics on PS5 Pro.

Fixing the game’s issues is crucial, especially since many players are eager to enjoy a fully working version. Sales figures from Circana show that Starfield had its strongest week in almost three years with the PS5 release, becoming the top-selling game for the week of April 11th. While the launch of the Free Lanes update and the new Terran Armada story DLC likely contributed to this success, despite some reports suggesting moderate PS5 sales, it’s clear there’s strong demand for Starfield on PS5, which has significantly boosted sales.
