Starfield has completed its second year since it was released in 2023, and throughout this period, the game has undergone various alterations. Initially, Bethesda’s space exploration game garnered mixed reactions at launch; however, subsequent post-launch modifications have broadened the game’s horizons, making one wonder if Starfield is worth another chance in 2025.
For those contemplating a replay or first-time experience with the game, there are crucial aspects to take into account. With Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer hinting at the possibility of Starfield arriving on the PS5 in future, it’s worth considering post-launch updates for non-Xbox players who might be intrigued by this title.
Is Starfield Worth Playing in 2025?
A Series of Post-Launch Updates Have Made Starfield a Stronger Experience
- The REV-8
- Improved maps
- Interior ship customization
- Creation Club
- Shattered Space DLC
Among the thrilling updates to Starfield since its launch is the debut of the REV-8. Being the game’s first official land vehicle, navigating planets is now less laborious than walking, significantly enhancing the experience of exploring vast planets. Initially, a frequent criticism post-release was that traveling between points of interest on these expansive planets took an excessive amount of time and could sometimes feel monotonous. However, the introduction of a land vehicle has revolutionized planetary exploration in the game.
In the game, it costs 25,000 credits to acquire the REV-8. After acquiring it, players have the option to change its color, move quicker using its boost function, and defend with an attached turret for attacks.
Enhancements such as higher resolution maps and the option to personalize ship interiors have significantly boosted the gameplay experience in Starfield, making it more enjoyable overall. While some players have expressed concerns about the game’s world feeling empty, its ship customization has consistently been praised. The addition of interior customization only serves to enhance this aspect further, making it especially appealing for players who enjoy designing and fine-tuning ships and settlements. As a result, Starfield’s current state might be quite attractive to these gamers.
The Creation Club has been instrumental in addressing criticisms about Starfield’s seemingly barren world by providing an array of both Bethesda-crafted and fan-made mods, enhancing the game’s content since its mod platform was launched. Moreover, the game’s inaugural DLC, Shattered Space, introduced a fresh chapter and unveiled the enigmatic faction of House Va’ruun.
Starfield‘s Creation Club features a combination of both free and paid-for mods.
Despite Upgrades, Starfield Still Has Room For Improvement
After making adjustments post-release, it’s clear that Starfield has become a better game, however, there remains room for further enhancements, particularly when it comes to its selection of planets and non-player characters. Regrettably, even with the addition provided by Shattered Space, some still find the game lacking in depth, especially regarding the DLC’s storyline and length. In essence, while quality of life enhancements have been beneficial, there is still work needed to fully immerse players within the game world.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m keeping my fingers crossed because there are whispers that Starfield might be preparing for a major announcement soon, hinting at potential new DLC. If true, this fresh expansion could rejuvenate the game and make it even more captivating for those who fell in love with it from the get-go. For me, these post-launch updates have only made the experience better, so I’m looking forward to diving back into Starfield in 2025. However, for those who didn’t instantly click with Starfield, these changes might not be enough to entice them for a second go.
