As someone who has been following Bethesda games since the early days of Morrowind, I must say that Starfield was a highly anticipated title for me. However, the game’s launch left me feeling a bit underwhelmed, much like a space traveler lost in an infinite cosmos. The universe they crafted is indeed impressive, but the mechanics and story felt lackluster compared to their previous masterpieces like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series.
2023 saw me and fellow gamers buzzing with excitement as Bethesda was gearing up to debut a fresh IP after 25 years – none other than the much-anticipated “Starfield”. This game promised to take us to new galaxies, while retaining all the charm that had won our hearts over the years. However, while it largely delivered on its promises, “Starfield” fell short of the sky-high expectations we’d built up. The latest Shattered Space DLC didn’t exactly change that impression either.
Initially, Shattered Space was envisioned as a major leap for the Starfield franchise, but unfortunately, it failed to resonate with most viewers. This has left fans speculating about Bethesda’s future plans for this brand, particularly after Todd Howard hinted at potential yearly story expansions. At the moment, we’re not privy to specific details about the next installment, but if Bethesda aims for Starfield to reach its full potential, they should pack 2025 with exciting anticipations.
Starfield Needs to Impress Its Audience in 2025
Starfield Has Not Had a Great 2024
After its release, it appears that Starfield hasn’t quite reached the lofty heights of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. Despite the intriguing universe Bethesda created, the mechanics and story have left many feeling underwhelmed. Players often found the universe overwhelmingly vast, the main narrative unengaging, and the gameplay monotonous. Even the first DLC, Shattered Space, which aimed to streamline things, seems to have disappointed players as well.
Starfield’s expansion, Shattered Space, introduced a host of fresh characters and settings for players to delve into, unlike the core game which spanned across multiple planets. This standalone adventure on one planet aimed to intensify the narrative focus while providing a more traditional Bethesda gaming experience. However, this DLC received mixed to negative feedback, earning mostly unfavorable reviews on Steam. What could have propelled Starfield further has instead fallen short, leaving room for an upcoming DLC to revitalize it.
New DLC and Updates in 2025 Could Help Right the Starfield Ship
There’s not a lot of information available on what the future holds for Starfield, but Todd Howard has hinted that it could potentially receive annual story updates. If Bethesda is serious about implementing this strategy, they should start working on it by 2025. If they reveal the next installment of their sci-fi RPG at the beginning of the year, fans would have something exciting to anticipate and a reason to stay invested in Starfield.
Absolutely, any upcoming expansion won’t garner the same response as Shattered Space did. However, if Bethesda manages to make it comparable to their renowned DLCs such as Far Harbor for Fallout 4 or Dawnguard for Skyrim, it could provide a significant boost to the struggling game. With this positive push behind it, the game could then venture into even more daring expansions.
It’s intriguing to speculate about what lies ahead for Starfield, given its current development phase. At present, it seems the team is primarily working on The Elder Scrolls 6, but with that game yet to be released, there’s plenty of scope for further space explorations. As long as future DLC expansions are well-executed, fans may eventually overlook the divided opinions about Shattered Space.
