Summary
- While many of the ships for sale in Starfield may look cool, the best ships in the game are built from scratch in the ship builder.
- Many of the ships for sale in Starfield are better approached in the mid-to-late game, as the cost is prohibitively expensive in earlier sections.
- Select quests will provide players with free ships like the Razorleaf, which are great for new/early-game players.
- Players will get the Starborn Guardian for free in New Game Plus, which will upgrade with each new cycle.
- The Shattered Space DLC introduced a new range of Va’ruun ships, all of which are worth experimenting with.
As a seasoned spacefarer who’s spent countless hours navigating the vast expanse of Starfield, I wholeheartedly stand by my choice for the best ship in this game – the one you build yourself!
In Starfield, you’ll find yourself spending a significant amount of time within your spacecraft. Consequently, selecting the ideal spaceship is often a top priority for players. Fortunately, Starfield offers an extensive range of spacecraft, several of which can be acquired at the game’s starports. While it’s possible to secure a decent ship without spending credits, it’s worth noting that many of the best ones require purchase.
Though, in many ways, the traits that make a great ship are somewhat subjective, there are certain aspects that remain universal across all playstyles. For example, it is nearly impossible to get through Starfield without entering combat with other ships. This means that any decent ship will have powerful weapons. This list will give players five examples of the absolute best ships that credits can buy.
According to reports, it’s impossible to predict with certainty which spaceships will be located at each spaceport. However, if a spaceship appears consistently in the same spaceport throughout different game sessions, that location will be noted in this guide and its video.
5. Abyss Trekker
Name | Class | Reactor PWR | Crew | Jump | Shield | PAR | MSL | BAL | Cost |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Abyss Trekker | C | 27 | 6 | 28LY | 850 | 38 | 96 | 162 | 345,000 |
- Purchase at the spaceport in Paradiso, on Porrima II in the Porrima system.
Initially, our top pick for the finest ships in Starfield was none other than this colossal vessel. However, you might observe a shift in its position on our list, which has dropped quite substantially. The primary cause for this change is that we found purchased ships are generally not as valuable an investment. As you’ll discover later in the game, the most effective ships are those you craft yourself. That said, there are exceptions to this rule, especially during the early stages of Starfield. Unfortunately, even newcomers won’t have the means to acquire Abyss Trekker, making its position on our list appropriate, not because it isn’t a capable ship, but because there’s seldom an opportune moment to utilize it effectively.
Found at the spaceport in Paradiso, the Abyss Trekker is a C-class monster that has an extremely powerful hull, which, along with its high-power shield, makes it practically unstoppable. It’s massive price tag will be a deterrent for just about everyone in the early stages of Starfield, but any player looking to make mince meat of the Crimson Fleet, Ecliptic, Va’ruun, or as many Spacers as they can find, will need to look no further than the Abyss Trekker.
For numerous gamers, what draws them to Abyss Trekker is its visually stunning appearance. Indeed, this applies to many spaceships up for grabs in Starfield. But, if you’re after an exceptional spacecraft, it’s worth holding onto your credits and exploring the rest of the options available.
4. Razorleaf
Name | Class | Reactor PWR | Crew | Jump | Shield | LAS | BAL | MSL | Cost |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Razorleaf | A | 26 | 2 | 21LY | 468 | 6 | 26 | 37 | Free |
- Razorleaf is given as a reward for completing the Mantis questline.
The Razorleaf ship stands out as an excellent choice for beginners and mid-level gamers. Given that it’s specifically tailored for the in-game character, Mantis, it performs exceptionally well during initial skirmishes in space. Although it may not be suitable for the entire game, its free status makes it a compelling option for newcomers. Additionally, the Razorleaf provides an early opportunity to acquire shielded cargo, which is instrumental in concealing Contraband from detection.
As a movie buff, I’d say: After our search for another free vessel proved unsuccessful shortly after acquiring the Razorleaf, we might consider chasing down the Star Eagle instead. But by the time you lay hands on that ship, there’s a good chance you’ll have the option to craft your own! This is why, not only because it’s incredibly awesome, but also for the building potential, the Razorleaf deserves a place on this list.
3. Starborn Guardian
Name | Class | Reactor PWR | Crew | Jump | Shield | SOL | TOR | – | Cost |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Starborn Guardian | A | 22 | 5 | 30LY | 846 | 26 | 76 | – | Free |
- The Starborn Guardian is given freely at the start of Starfield‘s New Game Plus cycle. It is also possible to steal them when landed, but this does not always work. If you see a Guardian in the game world, try to walk up its wing to enter the ship, then sit in the pilot seat. Usually, you can’t even enter, but it has worked for us many times.
In certain aspects, the Starborn Guardian might appear more style over practicality. But don’t mistake its initial appearance for its true value. After finishing your initial game, you won’t carry any ships from previous games with you, a feature inherent to the NG+ system in Starfield. This repetition can become monotonous once the novelty wears off. Therefore, having a ship that is pre-prepared can be incredibly beneficial. And as you progress through multiple cycles, the Guardian will grow in power.
Equipped with a swift Class A reactor and armored with just two weapons, the Guardian is designed for agility and quick movement. It excels in aerial combat, particularly for those who are adept at tactical maneuvers. Its sleek appearance, distinctive weaponry, and significant role in Starfield’s NG+ lore make it an impressive choice. Consequently, it deserves its place as the third-best ship within Starfield.
2. Va’ruun Ships (Hymn)
Name | Class | Reactor PWR | Crew | Jump | Shield | PAR | BAL | MSL | Cost |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Va’ruun Hymn | A | 19 | 4 | 21LY | 408 | 6 | 34 | 36 | Hijack/Steal (Free) |
- Shattered Space brought with it a variety of new Va’ruun ships, which will replace the Crimson Fleet ships on this list. At the moment, the best Va’Ruun ship is the Hymn, but it is not easy to acquire. Because of this, we will include the new ships as a group with the Hymn.
In the game Shattered Space, the recently added Va’ruun ships are all impressive in their unique ways. Within the gaming community, there’s general agreement that the Va’ruun Hymn stands out as the top choice within its class, but securing a Hymn can be quite challenging. The only methods known for obtaining a Hymn are by disabling and seizing it during battle, or finding one that has landed and making off with it.
In Shattered Space, the latest Va’ruun vessels outshine the Crimson Fleet ships that were initially well-received during the launch of Starfield. These advanced vessels can be bought in the major cities within Shattered Space. We obtained our Va’ruun Revelation II at the Dazra spaceport. The Revelation, similar to the Hymn, is a nimble combat ship and offers an excellent foundation for customization.
1. Custom Built Ship
- Introduce yourself to the Ship Builder as early as possible. You can take any ship in the game, enter Starfield‘s Ship Builder, and create a truly one-of-a-kind ship that far surpasses anything else in the game.
Previously stated, at the time we initially compiled this list, Starfield was a fresh release and the intricacies of the ship construction system were still largely unexplored. Post the Shattered Space DLC, it appears that the most exceptional ships in Starfield are those players construct themselves. The game abounds with star yards and Ship Services Technicians, each offering an expanding inventory of components for players to utilize.
For many players, the ship building system provides not only the best ships in Starfield, it is the best part of the game, period. Once you reach the later stages of the game, and all the required skills have been mastered and unlocked, there is little doubt that the ships you’ll create will be nigh unstoppable. If you are looking for the best ship in Starfield, look no further than the staryards and technicians of the Settled Systems.
Expand your experiences by exploring less popular regions, such as those with questionable reputations. You’ll find valuable resources for dealing in contraband at the Red Mile on Porrima III and the Crimson Fleet station on Kryx. These locations will equip you with the necessary tools for trading and transporting illicit goods.
