As a seasoned spacefarer with countless hours traversing the cosmos, I’ve come across my fair share of galactic mysteries and oddities. But the revelations about what didn’t make it into Starfield’s final cut left me utterly astounded!
Regarding Bethesda’s upcoming space epic, Starfield, although it has faced debate over its open-world style and technical glitches, it has mesmerized players with its vast universe, immersive exploration, and complex role-playing elements. Notably, like many big-budget games, Starfield had a significant amount of content trimmed before its launch.
Originally planned for Starfield but ultimately removed were features such as weapons, a companion, traits, skills, and magazines. It’s unclear why these elements were excised from the game or if their inclusion might have boosted its success in the long run. However, it seems that Starfield suffered some significant revisions before reaching its final form.
Everything Cut From Starfield
Several Settlements Didn’t Make It Into Starfield’s Final Cut
Notable absences among the final version of Starfield are several sites originally planned for inclusion, such as various Settlements and smaller locations within the main cities on the game’s planets. These omitted areas were part of the original design but did not make it into the finished product.
The Settlements that were ultimately cut from Starfield include:
- Azure Brook Farms
- Chandra Vineyard
- Cody’s Hill
- Bautista Fellowship
Azure Brook Farms and Chandra Vineyard were initially envisioned as locations within fictional star systems. Azure Brook Farms, situated in New Atlantis’ Alpha Centauri system (Jemison), was once a thriving agricultural area that Sarah Morgan dreamt of retiring to someday. On the other hand, Chandra Vineyard, as its name implies, was intended to be the mysterious vineyard for Chandra Wines found within the game. This vineyard originally appeared in the Maheo system on Maheo I, where Sonny di Falco’s Estate is located.
It appears that there’s a faction within Chandra Vineyard that hasn’t been active, as there are no individuals linked to it.
Originally intended for Polvo within the Valo system, where HopeTown stands in the finished game, Cody’s Hill was set to be a substantial township. In this fictional town, players would have discovered Barton’s General Store, Cody’s Saloon, McCord’s Workshop, Pickett’s House, and Ruiz House, each with designed interiors that didn’t make it past the cutting room floor. Additionally, several non-player characters (NPCs) were planned for Cody’s Hill, such as Bethany, Jim, Aliza, Chance, Shane, Casey, and the Ruiz family. Notably, like Chandra Vineyard, Cody’s Hill would have had its own faction.
As a gamer, I’ve come across many settlements in my interstellar adventures, but none quite like the Bautista Fellowship. Unlike those quaint cuttings, the Fellowship was designed to be a starstation, though its orbiting planet remains a cosmic enigma. Scattered dialogues hint at a bustling population of intelligent NPCs, making it a potential hub for scientists, brimming with knowledge and discovery.

Starfield Had a Handful of Dialogue Cut From the Game
In many games that rely heavily on dialogue, such as Starfield, certain conversations were trimmed before its launch. Notably, these dialogues centered around questlines involving House Va’ruun. This is one of the more recognized cuts that Starfield underwent, making the Shattere Space DLC especially significant because it provided additional insight into this enigmatic faction.
In the original version of Starfield, a character named Ramesh Thenua, who might have been a robot, was removed from the game. Another character, Alexei Soblokov, had lines of dialogue deleted, hinting at his position as the owner of an omitted ship battle arena called the “C.E.C.” A third character, Samara Qasim, was also cut before Starfield’s release, and it seems she served as a host in the now-absent ship fighting arena. Another cut character related to this missing arena is Debbie Walker, who was meant to be its receptionist. From her dialogue, it appears Debbie wasn’t particularly fond of her job, but she did seem to appreciate the sport.
An additional conversation is included featuring an NPC named “CEC Superfan” who, it appears, was intended to act as a spectator in a cut combat arena scene.
One Weapon Was Cut From Starfield Before Release
In addition to modifications made to the setting and dialogue, it’s worth noting that a weapon – specifically, a flamethrower – was removed from Starfield prior to its launch. This weapon is visible in the game on a Combatech magazine, but for reasons yet unknown, it was not included as a usable weapon in the final release.
A Major Companion Never Made It Into Starfield’s Final Cut
In Starfield, players can gather numerous allies throughout their journey in the game’s narrative, but it seems that one extra companion, named Azami, was originally intended for the game but didn’t make it to the final version. Azami would have been a Constellation companion, joining Sarah, Barrett, Andreja, and Sam as part of this group. There’s even evidence suggesting that Azami might have sported fiber optic hair.
Starfield Left Behind Two Unused Traits Before Release
In the development of Starfield, it wasn’t just the main features that underwent changes; even two potential Traits were eliminated before launch. The Traits, named Monogamous and Polyamorous, were devoid of any associated details. From their names alone, it seems they would have impacted the player’s romantic interactions, either by restricting or increasing the number of possible love interests.
Some Skills Were Never Used in Starfield
In addition, there were two abilities from Starfield that were unused in the game, named “Mindfulness” and “Textiles.” Mindfulness could have lessened EM damage, with its maximum level mirroring the damage back at the attacker. Conversely, Textiles influenced the quality of crafting directly; the highest rank offered a chance for players to avoid consuming resources while creating items.
Several Planned Magazines Didn’t Survive the Cutting Room Floor
In addition to some planned Starfield magazines that didn’t get published, there were also several magazine covers that were produced but never utilized. For instance, two covers for Constellation Spacefarer’s Guide and all five issues of Tracker’s Primer initially had different covers, although they ended up using the same one for each issue.
Originally, there was an unused guidebook for Colonization titled “Starfield Outpost Guide.” Gathering all 10 issues would have granted additional features for Starfield’s outposts. It appears that this aspect was eventually removed from the game to make the outpost feature more user-friendly. In a similar vein, the magazine “Your Life!” was also scrapped before launch. This publication would have allowed players to access new features in Enhance! stores across the Settled Systems with each of its 5 issues.
A number of proposed magazines about Starfield didn’t end up being published, along with numerous cover designs that remained unused.
The blueprints for the Experimental Spacecraft (in the game Starfield) would grant unique ship components when players gathered all 10 sets of these blueprints. Additionally, the UC Navigator Corporation’s Star Map was initially intended to show special locations to the player as each map issue was collected (totaling 5 issues). It’s unclear if these locations were included in the final version of the game or if they were omitted entirely.
A Couple of Other Oddities Were Left Out of Starfield’s Final Cut
In the final version of Starfield, there were some mysterious and unaccounted-for omissions. For instance, two snow globes appear in the game, yet they don’t have any associated books or quests. These snow globes – the Cydonia Snow Globe and the Tower of Pisa Snow Globe – are not recognized by the game as part of the complete collection of Starfield snow globes, even though they technically belong to it.
