The popular life simulation game, Starsand Island, is currently unavailable for purchase on Steam. While it was only in early access for about two months, it has been removed from the platform, meaning new players can’t buy it right now. However, the developers suggest it may return to Steam in the future.
Though it had a bumpy launch with some initial bugs, Starsand Island has received positive reviews, praised for its relaxing gameplay, extensive customization, and opportunities to connect with other players. The game also gained popularity on Steam, but its user score was briefly affected by a controversy where many users posted overly positive reviews after only playing for a short time. The developers politely asked these users to stop, as the reviews weren’t representative of genuine gameplay experiences.
Starsand Island Devs Explain Why it was Delisted from Steam
A new issue has emerged with the game Starsand Island, which was removed from Steam on April 9th, just before the end of its second month in early access. According to the game’s developer, Seed Sparkle Lab, Steam took down the game due to copyright concerns. They explained that a minigame unintentionally included visual elements from an older, well-known game during the planning stages, and these weren’t fixed before the early access release. While the specific minigame hasn’t been named, the developers say the removal is temporary. They’ve already submitted an updated version of the game to Steam for review, and it should be available again if Steam approves it.
Okay, so I’m really excited about Starsand Island coming back to Steam! And the best news is, it sounds like we won’t lose any of our progress! Seed Sparkle Lab said that once the game is back up, our save data will transfer over to the new version – we just need to update it first. They’re making sure everything we’ve already done will still be there, and we’ll still have access to all the stuff we’ve unlocked… except for a few things they have to remove because of that copyright issue, unfortunately.
Seed Sparkle Labs is apologizing for the recent error by giving all players a free costume – the Starsand Island outfit – along with the new Shining Star Outfit Set. This will be available as a free download on Steam within about seven business days of the game being removed, likely around April 20th. The quick release of this free content suggests the team is hopeful they can restore the game soon. They are also planning to improve their internal checks to help prevent similar issues from happening again.

Despite a recent copyright issue, the game Starsand Island remains available on Xbox. Players can still access the early access version on Xbox Series X/S through the Microsoft Store, and it’s still part of the Xbox Game Pass library of cozy games. The full version of Starsand Island is planned for release in summer 2026, and will also be playable on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
