Steam is testing out some changes to its review system. On the beta version of Steam, reviews now include information about the user’s computer hardware, and there’s a new way to give feedback on whether a game works well with the Steam Deck. These updates should help people find games that will run smoothly on their systems and make better purchasing decisions.
Steam reviews are a great way to find new games, letting you quickly see what other players think through average ratings. You can also read individual reviews to learn about a game’s strengths and weaknesses. However, reviews aren’t always perfect. Steam has already worked to hide unhelpful reviews, and now they’re tackling another problem players have been experiencing with the review system.
Steam Introduces New Review Features
Valve has introduced a new feature on Steam designed to improve the gaming experience and reduce refund requests. Previously, players could leave reviews even if a game didn’t run well on their computers, but it was often unclear whether performance issues were due to the game itself or the player’s hardware. Now, with the Steam beta client, users can easily share their PC specifications along with their reviews, helping other players determine if a game will run smoothly on their own systems.

Many Steam users know that the platform can check what computer parts you have. Steam sometimes asks if you’ll share this information, which it then compiles into the Steam Hardware Survey. This survey shows players how their computer compares to others’ and can also help game developers. Now, this same system is being used to gather hardware details when you write a review for a game.
Steam Deck Verification Feedback Gets a Buff
The recent Steam client update also improved how Steam Deck compatibility is shown for games. Steam displays whether a game is likely to work well on the Steam Deck using categories like “Verified” (works great), “Playable” (might have small issues), and “Unsupported” (won’t work). This helps you quickly see if a game will run on your device.
So, after I finish playing a game on my Steam Deck, Steam sometimes pops up a message asking if the game ran as expected. But before, if a game didn’t work right, I could only say ‘no’ – I couldn’t actually tell Valve what was wrong. Now, with the latest Steam beta, I can add details to my report! This is awesome because it gives Valve a much better idea of what’s broken and helps them decide if a game’s ‘Verified’ status on the Deck needs to be updated. It’s a big help for everyone!
These features aren’t available in the regular Steam app yet, but they’re expected to be added soon. Letting players share their PC specs could help others find games they’ll actually enjoy, even if initial reviews were negative due to performance issues on less powerful computers. Plus, allowing players to report what’s happening when they try to play on the Steam Deck will help Valve identify and fix problems faster. Ultimately, these updates should make buying and playing games on PC a better experience for everyone.
