The company known as Abxylute is introducing a novel handheld gaming device that combines the 3D viewing capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS and the style of the Steam Deck. Yet, for those interested in this Steam Deck-like device, they would need to prepare a significant amount close to $2,000 to acquire it.

Before virtual reality headsets like Meta Quest gained widespread use, there was a surge in popularity for 3D content, particularly in movies and television. Nintendo seized the opportunity with its distinctive 3DS handheld device, featuring a 3D pop-out effect that didn’t necessitate wearing glasses. Although most 3D gaming has transitioned to virtual reality now, this new handheld could evoke nostalgia for fans of the 3DS era.

New Steam Deck-Like Handheld is in 3D

The new device, called Abxylute 3D One, is set to launch, offering a portable gaming experience like never before. This handheld console boasts an impressive 11-inch screen, detachable controllers, and a unique glasses-free 3D display for an immersive gaming experience. Powered by the Intel Lunar Lake chip and equipped with 32 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, its high-resolution 11-inch display refreshes at an impressive 120Hz. As per The Verge, this innovative system is designed to support “3D play for over 50 top Steam games,” including titles such as Black Myth: Wukong and Hogwarts Legacy. Additionally, the Abxylute 3D One comes complete with software for converting images and videos into 3D format.

The Abxylute 3D One isn’t an affordable device, as it’s expected to be priced under $1,700 when it hits stores in September or October. It’s said to utilize eye-tracking technology to create a 3D experience, setting it apart from the Nintendo 3DS. The detachable controllers might remind you of the Nintendo Switch, but they use hall effect joysticks and triggers instead, which could potentially minimize the issue of stick drift. Additionally, it boasts twin touchpads much like the Steam Deck. Given its large size and hefty weight of 2.45 pounds, it comes with a kickstand to allow users to rest the entire system without holding it continuously.

It’s worth noting that the Abxylute 3D One is significantly pricier than both the Steam Deck and the rumored Nintendo Switch 2. The Steam Deck varies in price from $399 to $649, based on the model, while the base system for the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to sell for $449.99. However, given the Abxylute 3D One’s promised experience, its high cost becomes more justifiable.

The Steam Deck offers a resolution of 1280 x 800 on its 7.4-inch screen, and the Nintendo Switch 2 boasts a max resolution of 1920×1080 on its 7.9-inch screen. Neither of these handheld devices feature 3D effects, which sets the Abxylute 3D One apart. As more portable systems capable of providing console or PC-like experiences become available, the unique niche occupied by the Abxylute 3D One could contribute to its growing popularity.
