Steam Finally Made an Expected Change to Its Web Page After 13 Years

Valve has finally updated the gift card images on its Steam store page after 13 years. A user pointed out the outdated graphics just two weeks ago, but the physical gift card design changed years prior. Many wondered if Valve would ever notice the discrepancy, but a popular post earlier this year apparently prompted them to make the long-awaited update.

For over 20 years, Steam has been the dominant platform for buying and playing PC games. While companies like Epic Games have tried to challenge it with their own stores, Steam remains incredibly popular. Last month, Steam reached a new milestone with over 42 million players online at the same time, proving its continued success with both indie and major game releases.

Valve Finally Updates Steam Gift Card Graphics

Steam has received many updates and improvements since its launch in 2003, but its core interface has stayed mostly the same. While Valve did recently revamp the in-game overlay and add features like notes and updated notifications in 2023, one aspect hadn’t been touched in a long time: the design for redeeming Steam gift cards. The physical cards got a makeover years ago, but the digital page for redeeming them hadn’t been updated since 2013 – until now.

A Reddit user named Complete_Iron_2656 noticed something interesting: Valve hadn’t updated the design of its Steam gift cards in 13 years. Surprisingly, the user actually asked Valve not to change them, appreciating the older design’s unique look with its original Steam logo and game selection. The post gained a lot of attention with almost 5,000 upvotes, and it seems Valve took notice! The user recently shared that the gift card design has now been updated to match the newer graphics that have been available in stores for years.

Valve’s software might not always be the most stylish, but the company is planning a big year for hardware. They’re releasing three new Steam devices in the coming months: a new Steam Controller, a new VR headset called Steam Frame, and the highly anticipated Steam Machine. This is Valve’s second attempt at a home gaming console, and they promise it will be significantly more powerful than the Steam Deck – over six times as powerful, in fact – and capable of running any game in your Steam library.

I’m really excited about the Steam Machine coming out this year, and I’ve been thinking about getting my Steam library ready. The great thing is, you don’t have to spend any money to start building it up! There are so many free-to-play games available. They’ve even added a bunch recently, like Highguard and SEGA Football Club Championships. Plus, Steam often gives away games for free, though you have to be quick to grab them – these deals don’t last long. Just recently, they were giving away Untrusted, a fun social deduction game, for free until February 1st!
