Steam Machine—Everything To Know About Valve’s New System

Valve surprised many in November 2025 by finally unveiling the new Steam Machine console. The announcement came with no prior publicity and wasn’t widely anticipated. This launch came almost ten years after Valve’s initial foray into living room gaming consoles.

Valve’s latest device, building on products like the Steam Controller and Steam VR Headset, is designed to make PC gaming more accessible in the living room.

The Steam Machine is coming out in 2026, and there’s a lot of excitement around it. TopMob has created a central resource with all the information you need. We’ll keep this page updated with the latest news, so be sure to save it and check back often!

Everything We Know About The Steam Machine

Valve unveiled the Steam Machine on November 12, 2025, alongside other new hardware. This included the playfully nicknamed “Gabecube,” as well as the Steam Frame VR Headset and an updated Steam Controller.

Steam Machine Release Date

Valve originally announced the Steam Machine in November, stating it would be available in early 2026. As of today, they haven’t given a firm release date, but current expectations point to a launch sometime before April 2026.

We’ll share more information about when the Steam Machine will be available after the new year begins. That’s also when we’ll announce where you can purchase one.

How Much Will The Steam Machine Cost?

Valve hasn’t announced how much the Steam Machine will cost, just like they haven’t shared a release date. Since the initial announcement, there’s been a lot of guessing about the price.

Many people expected the Steam Deck to cost about the same as a regular gaming console. But Valve has announced it will be priced like a PC, since it’s actually a complete computer.

When it’s launched, the Steam Machine will be available in two versions: one with 512GB of storage and another with 2TB. You’ll also be able to purchase a package that includes the Steam Controller.

The Steam Machine will come in different price points depending on the storage size. The 512GB model will be less expensive than the 2TB version. Prices will also vary for bundles that include the new Steam Controller.

What Are The Steam Machine Specs?

When Steam announced the Steam Machine, people immediately wondered how well it would perform. The confirmed specifications suggest it will be comparable to basic gaming PCs.

As a gamer, I’m really excited to hear that the Steam Deck can handle 4K gaming at 60 frames per second if you use AMD FSR! And if you’re like me and prefer 1080p, it sounds like you’ll easily be able to max out the settings and still get a smooth experience.

The Steam Machine runs SteamOS 3, which is based on Arch Linux, but you can install other operating systems if you prefer. It comes with 16GB of fast DDR5 RAM, a built-in power supply, and supports the latest Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. One potential drawback is that it uses DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 for video output. While functional, these older standards might limit the picture quality in the future, especially compared to newer options like HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.0 or 2.1.

Steam Machine General Features

The Steam Machine is a new kind of device from Valve – unlike anything they’ve made before. Simply put, it’s a complete PC built into a single unit, intended to let you easily enjoy your PC games on your television.

It’s a little under 6 inches tall, around 6.3 inches deep, and just over 6 inches wide. This compact size means it should fit easily into most entertainment setups. A large fan on the back keeps the internal parts cool, and the design of the device is really built around that cooling system.

The back of the device features two USB-A 2.0 ports, one USB-C 3.2 Gen 3 port, as well as connections for video, ethernet, and power. On the front, you’ll find two USB-A 3.2 ports, a microSD card slot, a power button, and a small LED light. The front also has two design elements that give the Steam Machine a distinctive appearance.

The console will feature interchangeable faceplates, much like the original Xbox 360. These plates attach magnetically for simple swapping, and we expect many custom designs from third-party creators to become available. Valve also plans to release 3D files so users can create their own unique plates.

Beneath the front panel is a customizable LED light that lets you personalize the colors and effects to show things like how far along a download is, when the console is updating, or if there’s an error message – and much more.
