- Regardless of current issues, the majority of the community is happy with the new update.
As a seasoned gamer who’s been navigating the labyrinth of Steam storefront for over two decades now, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation with the latest update. The new ‘Trending Free’ tab is indeed a long-awaited addition to the platform, offering a separate space for free-to-play games, a feature that was desperately needed due to the clutter in the previous trending tab.
As a passionate Steam user, I’m thrilled to share that Steam has rolled out an excellent new update to its storefront. This latest feature enables us, the users, to effortlessly distinguish between free-to-play trending games and paid ones. This highly anticipated addition comes in response to the community’s feedback regarding the previous version of the trending tab being “unusable.” This update is a game changer for many of us, making it easier than ever to find our next favorite game on Steam!
Whenever Steam gets updated with fresh features, enthusiasts are usually thrilled to explore any groundbreaking accessibility improvements. Given that the platform is now more than two decades old, it has undergone significant changes since its initial launch, with certain elements being introduced and removed over time. Valve has graciously offered something new with Steam’s latest update, but keen-eyed users have also spotted signs of a potential change to the filtering system for Steam reviews. This feature momentarily surfaced on the platform before being taken down, yet it wasn’t unnoticed.
On August 13th, I was thrilled to see Valve unveil an update on Steam. This update introduced a brand new “Trending Free” tab on the store’s homepage, which has been long-awaited by fans like me. As you scroll down, you’ll now find this tab sitting alongside the usual ones. The purpose of this tab is to neatly segregate free-to-play games and demos from the paid games that are also trending, making it easier for us to discover new content without getting overwhelmed. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many of us hailing it as a much-needed improvement to the platform.
Steam Gets New Trending Free Tab
It seems that a recently introduced Steam update feature has been overlooked by many in the community, yet those who did spot it have expressed appreciation for the improvement. On Reddit, user Naftak expressed delight, stating that the change made the trending tab more usable again. However, not all users shared this sentiment. Some pointed out that the updated “trending free” section seems to favor demos over actual free-to-play games, which are becoming increasingly scarce in this section.
It’s reasonable that fans might be puzzled by this new tab on Steam, as it only contains game demos instead of the usual array of free-to-play games. However, don’t forget to scroll down, as there are two “see more” buttons at the bottom. The first button reveals a variety of free-to-play games, while the second one displays additional demos for your perusal.
Steam persists in dealing with tough competition from other well-known platforms, as the Epic Games Store frequently offers free games. Therefore, any advancements and additions to its platform are appreciated by followers. If Steam intends for their latest free section to only contain demos, though, they may need to adjust it if they aim to make this new feature popular with all users.
