Steam Users Have Until January 18 to Claim Free Game

Steam is offering another free game to users, but you only have until January 18th to add it to your collection. PC gamers have enjoyed a lot of free games recently, especially with the holidays. Besides the free mystery games on the Epic Games Store, Steam has also been giving away various games.

The way free games are offered on the Epic Games Store and Steam is quite different. Epic Games Store gives away new free games every Thursday morning, so players know when to check. Steam’s free games appear randomly, which means it’s easier to miss them. However, when Steam does offer a free game, you usually have a good amount of time to claim it.

  • Claim Initial Drift Online on Steam

This week, Steam is offering Initial Drift Online as a free game until January 18th at noon Central Time. Released in 2023, this online racing game lets you explore a Japanese-inspired world featuring iconic locations like Mt. Haruna and the Irohazaka winding road. You’ll earn money to unlock new cars and customize them, then compete against other players online and climb the leaderboards. The game features realistic driving physics and a dynamic day/night cycle. It’s received mostly positive reviews, so racing fans will want to grab it now! Even if you miss the free period, Initial Drift Online is very affordable at just $4.99.

Just before the release of their new game, Akina, the developers are making Initial Drift Online free to play. Akina, a multiplayer arcade racer set in 1990s Japan, will play similarly to Initial Drift Online and focus on drift racing. While a specific date isn’t available, Akina is planned for release in early 2026. Players of Initial Drift Online can also look forward to an update that will connect the two games.

While racing games aren’t for everyone, Initial Drift Online is currently available for free on Steam, so it’s worth checking out! This offer lasts until January 18th at 12:00pm CST. If you’re looking for more free games, Bloons TD 6 is free on the Epic Games Store until January 15th at 10:00am CST. After that, it will be replaced by two new free games on the Epic Games Store.

After Bloons TD 6 leaves the Epic Games Store, it will be replaced by Styx: Master of Shadows and Styx: Shards of Darkness. These are stealth games made by Cyanide that received mixed reviews when they first came out, but should still be enjoyable for fans of the stealth genre. Both Styx games will be available for free from January 15th to January 22nd, and what will replace them hasn’t been announced yet.
