This post contains spoilers for Steel Ball Run.
I watched the first episode of Steel Ball Run and it immediately made a huge splash with anime fans – myself included! Everyone was blown away by the quality of work David Production delivered. Honestly, it felt like a peak experience, and I wondered how they could possibly follow it up.
The first episode of Steel Ball Run ran for 47 minutes, covering the complete first stage of the story. Because of this comprehensive start, fans are now wondering when the next episode will become available.
Steel Ball Run Episode 2 Release Date
As of today, we don’t know exactly when Steel Ball Run Episode 2 will be released. Fans were hoping for an announcement at Anime Japan, but unfortunately, there were no new details shared. However, a short preview was released, indicating the episode is expected sometime in 2026.
The fact that there’s no announced release date is worrying JoJo fans, and for good reason. Netflix previously mishandled the release of Stone Ocean with its batch drops, and now the situation seems even more confusing. Episodes aren’t coming out weekly or in groups, leading many to believe Netflix doesn’t understand what fans are hoping for.
“I will show you what I can do.” —Johnny Joestar to Gyro Zeppeli
The French translator for the Steel Ball Run manga has joined fans in asking Netflix and other decision-makers to release new episodes weekly. He believes any other release schedule would harm the anime’s impact and potentially make it one of the worst of all time.
Steel Ball Run Could End In 2027
If things continue as expected, the Steel Ball Run anime likely won’t finish until 2027, and could even be delayed until 2028. With the second episode currently planned for release in late 2026, the anime could take at least two more years to complete if the pace remains slow. This slow release could significantly reduce excitement for the show, which would be unfortunate considering how highly regarded the Steel Ball Run manga is.

Beyond the issues with how episodes were released, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure fans also faced negative reviews online. The first episode of Steel Ball Run initially became the top-rated anime on MyAnimeList, even surpassing Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. However, other fan groups noticed this and started leaving extremely low ratings, which lowered the show’s overall score. Steel Ball Run eventually fell to second place, where it has stayed. While this practice of deliberately lowering scores isn’t fair, JoJo fans shouldn’t worry too much about it, as ratings don’t always reflect how good a show actually is.
How Can Netflix Fix Steel Ball Run?
The best way to improve the Steel Ball Run anime is to give fans a clear release schedule. If the animation isn’t finished, Netflix should hold off on releasing it until it is. Fans don’t want to wait months between episodes. David Production has shown they can create a fantastic adaptation, but they need enough time to finish it properly. Once the episodes are complete, releasing them weekly would be ideal.
