This post contains spoilers for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
I’m a huge fan of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and it’s easy to see why it’s so popular! Hirohiko Araki’s manga is a true legend – it’s been incredibly influential and still feels fresh after all these years. What’s amazing is that Araki has crafted nine unique parts so far, and they’re all connected within this incredible JoJo universe.
Among the nine parts of the series, Steel Ball Run-the seventh one-is particularly noteworthy. While the Steel Ball Run manga concluded some time ago, the anime adaptation wasn’t revealed until 2025.
Steel Ball Run Trailer Has Disappointed A Lot Of Fans
SBR’s New Trailer Was Released On September 23

The anime adaptation of Steel Ball Run is scheduled to premiere in 2026, and it will be available exclusively on Netflix. Leading up to September 23, 2025, there was a lot of anticipation for a new announcement. Fans eagerly awaited details, and on that day, a trailer was revealed, offering a first look at the upcoming series.

The trailer for Steel Ball Run featured several memorable moments from the manga. It also showed that the horses won’t be entirely computer-generated. As the first trailer, it was short on footage, mostly showcasing character designs and color palettes. Some fans were concerned about the number of still images, but this is a common technique in JoJo anime to build drama, so it’s perfectly normal for Steel Ball Run to use it as well.

The trailer itself is generally good, and there aren’t any major issues with it. As we’ve mentioned, the anime is still in the early stages of development, so the trailer doesn’t show a lot of detail yet. We can expect a much more polished trailer as production moves forward. It’s also worth noting that perfectly recreating Hirohiko Araki’s intricate art style is a challenge for any studio, even one as talented as David Production. Their priority is to create an accurate adaptation without any obvious mistakes.
Steel Ball Run Anime Cast Has Been Revealed
Steel Ball Run Anime Is Set To Released In 2026

Along with the new trailer, we now know who will be voicing some of the key characters. You can find the complete cast list below.
- Johnny Joestar: Shogo Sakata (Tougen Anki, Wind Breaker, Chainsaw Man)
- Gyro Zeppeli: Yohei Azakami (Clevatess, The Seven Deadly Sins)
- Diego Brando: Kaito Ishikawa (Dandadan, To Your Eternity)
- Lucky Steel: Rie Takahashi (Oshi no Ko, Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku)
- Steven Steel: Kenta Miyake (Berserk, Slam Dunk)
I have to say, Kaito Ishikawa as Diego Brando is a really interesting choice. Everyone remembers Koyasu Takehito’s fantastic performance as Dio Brando, and he set a high bar. It makes sense that they’d cast Ishikawa, though, because Diego Brando is a different character entirely, and they clearly want to portray that distinction.

Some viewers are concerned about how Netflix will release the *Steel Ball Run* anime. The way Netflix released *Stone Ocean* – in groups of episodes rather than weekly – received a lot of criticism from fans who prefer the traditional weekly release schedule. Netflix hasn’t announced when *Steel Ball Run* will be available, but fans hope to hear more details in 2026.
With Steel Ball Run scheduled to come out in 2026, it will face tough competition from popular anime like Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2, Hell’s Paradise Season 2, and Oshi no Ko Season 3. These shows will all be contenders for Anime of the Year, making it a challenge for Steel Ball Run to win the award.
Steel Ball Run centers around Johnny Joestar, a man who uses a wheelchair and longs for a better life. When he meets Gyro Zeppeli, a skilled horse jockey competing in the Steel Ball Run race, things begin to change for Johnny. The two quickly become friends and embark on a journey together.
