It has been confirmed that a new installment of Stellar Blade is being produced, and it’s anticipated to hit shelves towards the close of 2027 according to a recent investor pitch. Nevertheless, whether the sequel will truly be available at that time remains uncertain.
In an interview with ThisIsGame (through MP1st), Shift Up CEO Kim Hyung-hyung shared that the team has poured all their resources into the recently launched PC version of the game, implying that the development of the sequel is currently in the intensive research and development stage.
After that, he adds: “Launching it in 2027 would be marvelous, but given that we have just three years remaining, the most I can assure you is that we’ll do our utmost. However, let me make this clear – it will indeed be an exceptional game.
Previously in the conversation, there was an agreement that content from the DLC of the initial game was transformed into Stellar Blade 2. As the expansion’s reach expanded more than anticipated, Shift Up opted to develop it as a “complete sequel” instead. But since then, many things have evolved or been altered.
In the next phase, the team aims to construct a more detailed and comprehensive account of events. Recognizing that the initial storyline may have been somewhat thin, it’s been pointed out that incorporating cutscenes proved challenging. Due to these difficulties, we had to scale back on additional cutscenes that contributed to world-building and character development, except for the primary plot, in order to expedite production. This was the only way we could complete the game successfully.
Given that a sequel is being developed, Shift Up could transform Stellar Blade into a profitable franchise, with the initial game selling over three million copies since its recent PC release. It managed to sell a million copies within just three days and has rapidly emerged as Sony’s most played single-player launch on Steam.
