- Cast and fans struggle emotionally with the impending end of the beloved series.
Stranger Things‘ fifth season is eagerly awaited by many Netflix viewers, and luckily for fans, we won’t have to wait much longer as this cherished sci-fi show will return for its swan song in 2022. The upcoming installment promises to be the saddest and most emotional season yet. Lately, Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-CEO, has been building anticipation among fans by hinting that season 5 will offer a rollercoaster ride of emotions and suggesting that viewers might want to have tissues handy before tuning into the season finale.
Originating from Matt and Ross Duffer, the supernatural series gained immense popularity on Netflix, with its fourth season being the most-watched English TV series within the first month of release. In late December 2024, Netflix confirmed that filming for Stranger Things‘s fifth season had been completed. Although the exact launch date for the final season is yet to be disclosed, the Duffer brothers hinted they are running ahead of schedule. Now, with nine years having passed since it first introduced us to its terrifying world in 2016, fans are saddened to discover that one of the show’s most recognized landmarks has sadly been demolished.
Stranger Things Fans Wave Goodbye to Hawkins High School

In a double blow to devoted Stranger Things fans, not only is the series set to conclude with Season 5, but the destruction of a significant filming location – Patrick Henry High School in Georgia – has left many heartbroken. Although the show is set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, it was filmed at this school. Now, the once cherished setting that played a pivotal role throughout the series has been demolished to construct a new building, a development that hasn’t been met with enthusiasm by dedicated Stranger Things fans.
A video from Reddit, initially shared by user uth90 but originally sourced from Instagram account @thehawkinsreporter who is a fan of ‘Stranger Things’, displays the demolition of a building. The plan for construction was set for late 2024, and it has now been confirmed that the final remnants of the Hawkins High set have been destroyed this week. In the short video, we can see that the Hawkins High mural and its “Home of the Tigers” motto are no more, despite efforts by the city to salvage parts of the ‘Stranger Things’ high school set before it was demolished. Fortunately, it appears that footage of the high school was obtained prior to dismantling, so fans can still see the famous building in Season 5. Despite this, many fans remain saddened by this development.
One disheartened fan lamented, “My childhood is being torn down,” while another wistfully wished, “If only I could have one brick from that flag!” Another fan noted that given the long break since the series aired, they might as well add ‘adulthood’ to the list of memories being dismantled too. The cast members of Stranger Things, including Finn Wolfhard (Mike) and Sadie Sink (Max), have previously spoken about the emotional strain of the show coming to an end, suggesting that the series finale has become a cauldron of emotions for both fans and its actors alike.
