Since its debut in 2016 up until the gripping season 4 finale, it’s clear why Netflix’s “Stranger Things” has become such a sensation. Strip away the supernatural beings and futuristic aspects, and you’re left with a heartwarming tale of friendship and kinship. However, the menacing characters like Jamie Campbell Bower’s Vecna are what truly hook viewers, making it hard to tear your eyes away from each episode.

As Stranger Things enthusiasts eagerly anticipate season 5 (scheduled for some time in 2025 according to the Duffer Brothers), they can satisfy their craving for sci-fi excitement with an upcoming movie that promises to be captivating. This film not only caters to fans of the Hawkins, Indiana-based saga’s grand narrative, but it also boasts a fascinating backstage tale.

Stranger Things Fans Will Love Watch The Skies, Which Uses Technology In A Unique Way

As a devoted sci-fi enthusiast and avid Stranger Things fan, I can’t wait to immerse myself in the upcoming movie, Watch the Skies, produced by Flawless and XYZ Films. The trailer immediately grabbed my attention as the protagonist, Denise (played by Inez Dahl Torhaug), confesses, “I don’t feel normal,” hinting at an intriguing narrative that resonates with both genres.

“You mean it’s not normal to think your father was kidnapped by aliens?”

Based on the trailer for “Watch the Skies,” it seems that Denise is a fearless character reminiscent of those in “Stranger Things,” struggling to understand her shifting world. The movie revolves around a teenager attempting to discover if aliens took her father, while joining forces with unconventional individuals who feel marginalized. “Watch the Skies” shares many traits with “Stranger Things,” such as eccentric characters that defy expectations and rally when they’re not backed by others. Unlike most alien-themed movies, which primarily focus on grotesque aliens like those in the “Godzilla” series or the “Alien” films, “Watch the Skies” follows Denise’s quest to uncover truths about her father and find herself along the way. This character-driven narrative is sure to resonate with fans of “Stranger Things,” who adore scrappy and endearing characters such as Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), smart Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink), and other members of the Party, as well as memorable adult characters.

As a fan, I can’t wait to catch “Watch the Skies” – a visually stunning film with an exciting narrative that promises thrilling adventures. What makes it even more intriguing is its unique behind-the-scenes story. This movie hails from Sweden, and the English version features something truly innovative: AI-powered visual dubbing!

Flawless, an AI company, took on this challenge by using artificial intelligence to match the actors’ lines with their mouth movements. According to Variety, this was done to ensure the speech sounds natural and seamless. This approach adheres to SAG-AFTRA rules, which is a comforting assurance for viewers like me. The AI dubbing eliminates the need for subtitles, making for an enhanced movie experience.

It’s captivating to explore the visual techniques employed in sci-fi narratives, and a promotional video behind-the-scenes for Watch the Skies gives us a closer look at the production process. In this video, the creators elaborate on the distinctive methods used to make the film, showcasing comparisons between scenes from the Swedish and English versions. Remarkably, the dialogues in both versions appear natural and harmonious.

Watch the Skies producer Albin Pettersson said in the video:

Instead of facing a language barrier when trying to connect globally, we were approached by the team at Flawless to adapt our film into English instead. However, rather than a dubbed version, they wanted us to create an entirely new English-language adaptation.

When Is The Release Date For The Sci-Fi Movie Watch The Skies?

On May 9th, 2025, the movie “Watch the Skies” is set for release, as reported by Variety, it will debut on an impressive 100 screens across AMC Theaters.

In a chat with Nordisk Film & TV Fond, producer Albin Pettersson, one of the founders of Crazy Pictures, discussed “Watch the Skies”. Pettersson revealed that this film was sparked by an extraterrestrial-themed documentary titled “Ghost Rockets”, which centered around a Swedish UFO group known as UFO Sverige. Regarding Denise, he mentioned…

“She looks for her dad and meets this new bunch of people at UFO Sweden who become her family.”

Pettersson continued:

To set the record straight, we never intended to create an alien invasion film featuring spaceships. Instead, UFO Sweden is a blend of our favorite elements – suspense, comedy, and sci-fi spectacle. Our inspiration came from shows like Stranger Things, with its optimistic tone, group of kids, and distinctive elements. Naturally, we drew inspiration from Steven Spielberg’s E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 as well.
