The compelling storyline of “Stranger Things” has introduced a wealth of unforgettable characters.
In the 21st century, characters such as Eleven and Hopper from the series Stranger Things have left a lasting impact, but it’s the heartfelt bonds and camaraderie between specific characters that have truly propelled the show to greatness. Whether we’re talking about humorous interactions or deep emotional ties, the friendships depicted in Stranger Things have become a defining feature of modern popular culture.
9. Joyce & Murray
Quirky Duo That Traveled To The Other End Of The World
As a movie critic, I must say that the dynamic duo of Joyce Byers and Murray Bauman stands out as one of the most intriguing partnerships in season 4. Their first encounter occurred when Hopper and Joyce sought Alexei’s help, leading them to Murray. From there, they found themselves embroiled in the mission to thwart the Russian attempts to open the gateway to The Upside Down. This adventure culminated in what seems to be the demise of Hopper, leaving Joyce and Murray in a precarious position.
In season 4, Joyce and Murray come to suspect that Hopper might still be alive, with clues pointing towards his whereabouts being in Russia. This leads them to embark on a mission to rescue Hopper. Initially, they are hesitant allies, but as they work together, their witty banter and humorous exchanges create some of the most laughter-inducing scenes in the new season. Their frequent arguments and daring escapades, both en route to Russia and during their encounters with Hopper, make for a chaotic yet entertaining journey.
8. Nancy & Jonathan
Slow-Burn Couple Who Are Keen Investigators
From the very beginning of the series, there has been an immediate chemistry and romantic pull between Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers. This was evident despite Nancy previously being involved with Steve Harrington, who is known as the popular king of Hawkins High School. As they both grieve and work together to solve the mysteries surrounding Will Byers’ and Barb’s disappearances, their bond deepens. Romantic feelings start to develop between them, eventually leading to Nancy and Jonathan falling for each other.
Despite the ups and downs they faced, such as Nancy’s long-distance situation with Jonathan in California, the couple has consistently played an integral role, serving as a constant element that has helped sustain the cohesion of the storyline in “Stranger Things”.
7. Max & Lucas
Loving Relationship That Has Its Share Of Ups And Downs
In season 2, Max Mayfield enters and significantly alters the dynamics of “Stranger Things” storyline. Despite her reserved and solitary demeanor, Lucas Sinclair is instantly smitten by this unconventional character. As Max gradually opens up, she and Lucas form a romantic relationship that echoes common high school romances, filled with endearing displays of affection and disagreements that seem sweet and genuine to the audience.
In season 4, the bond between Max and Lucas faces troubles following Max’s brother’s demise, Billy. This heartbreaking event plunges Max into a deep sadness, while Lucas starts associating with a new group at school. However, amidst all the chaos, they eventually reconcile when Vecna targets Max. In one of the series’ most poignant and dramatic scenes, Lucas steps in to rescue and console Max as Vecna attempts to take her.
6. Mike & Eleven
Puppy Love Between Kids Who Found Comfort In One Another
Two key characters from “Stranger Things,” Eleven and Mike Wheeler, have been deeply connected since their chance encounter in the initial episode of the first season. As Eleven adapted and found her place within society, Mike has consistently stood by her side, offering support to the troubled young girl.
In the world of cinema, I found myself captivated by the heartwarming tale of Mike and Eleven. Their budding adolescent romance took them on a rollercoaster ride, complete with highs and lows that echoed the turbulence of teen love. When Will, Jonathan, Eleven, and Joyce embarked on their journey to California, distance became a barrier between our young lovers. Yet, this obstacle was no match for their unbreakable connection, a bond that stood strong amidst all the tumultuous events they faced together.
5. Eddie & Dustin
Hellfire Club Members That Quickly Rub Off On Each Other
In season 4, I found myself introduced as Eddie, a character who swiftly won over fans and became more than just a companion to Dustin. As our journey through the tumultuous events of the Hellfire unfolded, ending in heartache and despair, I took Dustin under my wing, offering him friendship and camaraderie. From the very beginning, I invited Mike, Dustin, and Lucas to join my Dungeons & Dragons club, Hellfire, providing our band of misfits with a sense of belonging in high school.
Following Eddie being charged with Chrissy’s murder, Dustin embarks on a journey far and wide to locate his friend, drawing in both the crew and Eddie into another twisted, sinister storyline connected to The Upside Down. As Eddie evolved into a mentor figure for Dustin, his emotional and unexpected demise struck a chord with many, particularly Dustin, as their relationship and dynamic was one of the most captivating aspects of the season.
4. Eleven & Hopper
Found Family That Acts As Father And Daughter
In the majority of her childhood, the character, Eleven, experienced mistreatment and isolation, away from society. However, she eventually formed an alliance with Hawkins’ police chief, Hopper. Following her assistance in rescuing Will and vanquishing a Demogorgon, Eleven vanished from Mike and the group, instead choosing to stay with Hopper at his secluded cabin. Over time, Hopper and Eleven developed a bond resembling that of a father and daughter, as Hopper protected her from government agencies seeking the powerful girl.
Despite Hopper’s strict regulations and domineering personality, which initially bothered Eleven due to his role in her daughter’s disappearance, Eleven eventually develops affection for Hopper, viewing him as a father figure. This emotional connection between them is further strengthened when, after a period where it seemed he had perished, Hopper miraculously reappears in Hawkins. This dramatic event underscores the deep and caring relationship they share.
3. Steve & Robin
From Work Colleagues To Best Friends
In “Stranger Things,” Steve gets along great with many characters, but his relationship with Robin, particularly from season 3 onwards, is lively and turbulent. At Starcourt Mall’s Scoops Ahoy, they initially work together, but soon their bond evolves beyond just colleagues. Robin teams up with Steve, Dustin, and Erica to unravel the mysterious Russian activities hidden within Hawkins, all while keeping a low profile.
In addition to their playful back-and-forth and good-natured jibes, Robin and Steve find solace in each other. As Robin confides in Steve about her sexuality, Steve demonstrates nothing but affection and empathy for his eccentric buddy. As Robin becomes entangled in the strange realm of The Upside Down and Russian meddling, along with the regular cast of characters, their friendship deepens and eventually blossoms into a strong bond, making them best friends.
2. Hopper & Joyce
From Allies To Lovers
Regardless of hardships, Hopper and Joyce have formed an unbreakable team, often finding themselves entangled in the turmoil that plagues Hawkins. Initially trying to control Joyce following the vanishing of Will, their bond deepens as they jointly delve into investigations and grapple with shared ordeals, such as rescuing Will from The Upside Down and the tragic demise of Bob at Hawkins Lab.
Over time, a hint of romantic feelings and tension emerged between them, right before it seemed Hopper had met his end at the conclusion of the third season. Yet, Joyce and Murray’s arduous quest to save Hopper from Russia underscored Joyce’s affection and concern for the police chief of Hawkins, as their undeniable connection and shared history became increasingly evident.
1. Steve & Dustin
Unlikely Duo That Provide A Barrel Of Laughs
In an unexpected alliance, the pairing of Steve and Dustin has proven to be a matchless strength within the Stranger Things universe. At the onset of the series, Steve’s popular persona and Dustin’s eccentric zest kept them at opposite extremes. However, as Steve undergoes personal growth, transforming from high school heartthrob to an inspiring mentor for the young adventurer, this duo embarks on mischief while the secrets of Hawkins gradually unravel.
The easygoing bond and amusing interaction between Steve and Dustin seem effortlessly natural, resembling a successful buddy-cop team. As they prepare to take center stage in the captivating final season of Stranger Things, their friendship in seasons 2 and 3 – particularly the extraordinary camaraderie they shared – will be hard to top.
