Stranger Things Season 5: Hopper and Joyce Need To End Up Together

Stranger Things Season 5: Hopper and Joyce Need To End Up Together

As a dedicated fan of Stranger Things since its inception, I can confidently say that Joyce Byers and Jim Hopper’s relationship is one of the most captivating aspects of this extraordinary series. While the thrilling action sequences and supernatural elements keep us on the edge of our seats, it’s the emotional bonds between characters like Joyce and Hopper that truly resonate with viewers.

Despite the fact that “Stranger Things” revolves around sinister forces in a small town and features numerous action sequences, this popular Netflix series also boasts several beloved romantic relationships. As fans rejoiced when Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) started dating, there’s an undeniable warmth between Jim Hopper (David Harbour) and Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder).

It would be unfortunate if the fifth season of Stranger Things were to prioritize action so heavily that it overlooked the development of the beloved couple. While the final season is expected to include intense, dramatic scenes, it’s essential not to forget about resolving Hopper and Joyce’s love story as well.

Joyce And Hopper Need To Have A Happy Ending In Stranger Things Season 5

Stranger Things Season 5: Hopper and Joyce Need To End Up Together

If Joyce and Hopper don’t remain a couple in the final episode of Stranger Things season 5, viewers might feel let down because they believe their relationship has been built over many trials and tribulations, demonstrating their deep affection for each other. While it’s understandable that there could be challenges throughout season 5, it seems unlikely that they would permanently separate or leave Hawkins without one another. Given the significance of this pair to fans, their storyline is crucial in the fifth season of Stranger Things.

As reported by Variety, during an episode of the podcast “Happy Sad Confused” in 2023, David Harbour stated that the conclusion of “Stranger Things” is emotionally impactful. He elaborated on this, explaining…

“I know what it is. I know where we net out and it’s very, very moving. That is the term I will use.”

It’s likely that there will be an emotional reunion between Hopper (David Harbour) and Joyce (Winona Ryder). Following Vecna’s (Jamie Campbell Bower) defeat and the restoration of peace in Hawkins, it seems fitting to include a significant conversation between them. They might share their emotions and strategize about their future together. Although the idea of starting anew in another location could be exciting, they may find themselves reminiscing about the old Hawkins before Vecna and other terrifying beings appeared. It could be plausible that they decide to stay in Hawkins instead.

Harbour also said The Duffer Brothers make sure to “pay off” the character arcs. He said:

“I can’t wait to delve deeply into this character as they have significant connections with the original ones – Eleven, Hopper, Joyce, Will, and Mike. These characters from the last eight years will experience major resolutions because of them.”

In line with Harbour’s recommendation, the storyline will primarily revolve around the beloved original characters. It seems quite unusual if Joyce and Hopper’s stories didn’t culminate in their unwavering commitment to each other. When Joyce and Murray Bauman (Brett Gelman) rescue Hopper, it underscores her unyielding devotion towards him. Similarly, Hopper has made significant sacrifices for Joyce and his actions demonstrate that he values her family deeply.

Although many unpleasant endings are imaginable for “Stranger Things,” it would be disappointing if these characters ended up splitting or concluded that their relationship was impossible. Given that their children have grown up and will likely depart from Hawkins, along with the disappearance of the evil, there seems to be no rational justification for Hopper and Joyce to remain separated.

What Happened In Joyce And Hopper’s Stranger Things Relationship?

Stranger Things Season 5: Hopper and Joyce Need To End Up Together

As a die-hard Stranger Things fan, I can tell you that Hopper and Joyce may not be an official pair throughout the series, but their bond is undeniable from the get-go. It all starts when they join forces to find Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) in the first season’s pilot episode. Their friendship deepens further in season 2, and we learn more about these two resilient characters who share a common goal – saving their town from the strange happenings.

Joyce and Hopper’s relationship truly begins in season 3, but of course, they don’t have an easy journey. But while they’re supposed to go on their first date early on in the season, Joyce doesn’t take it seriously and misses it. They go on their first date in the last episode of season 3 and then, in season 4, Joyce goes to Russia to find Hopper. When they kiss, fans cheer them on because they hoped for that for so long. Stranger Things season 5 needs to be even better than season 4, and it needs to give Joyce and Hopper a proper send-off.
