As a long-time enthusiast of the supernatural and a devoted fan of Stranger Things since its inception, I’ve spent countless hours pondering these intriguing theories that swirl around the show like the Upside Down itself. The connection between Will Byers, Henry Creel, and Vecna has always been a topic of great interest for me.
“Stranger Things” Season 5 Signals the Conclusion of the Duffer Brothers’ Sci-Fi Horror Journey, Wrapping Up a Storyline Spanning Nine Years
Fans are likely aware of the Eddie Munson/Kas theory, which speculates that Eddie will be reborn as Kas, Vecna’s right-hand man who eventually overthrows and defeats him. However, this isn’t the only intriguing connection in the Stranger Things universe. The Duffer brothers have shown us that anything can happen when it comes to otherworldly dimensions and supernatural creatures, which means even the craziest fan theories might just come true in Season 5. Let’s delve deeper into some of the most outlandish ones.
Theory One: Kali Will Return and Team Up With El
Fans recall Kali from Stranger Things’ second season, who was among the children tested at Hawkins Lab, similar to Eleven. She earned the moniker Eight. Following her escape from Hawkins, Kali swore vengeance on Dr. Owens and Papa. In the episode titled “The Lost Sister,” Eleven manages to locate Kali and uncovers her past. During this encounter, Kali displays her abilities to Eleven, making her feel less isolated. Although “The Lost Sister” didn’t rank high among memorable Stranger Things episodes, Kali’s appearance could be crucial in Season 5.
If it appears that Eleven and Vecna are set for a decisive confrontation as suggested in the ending of Season 4, then Eleven may require assistance to overcome him. One possibility is that Eleven will ask Kali to join forces with her to vanquish Vecna permanently. This scenario would provide Linnea Berthelsen’s character with an opportunity to play a pivotal role in Stranger Things‘ concluding season and make amends for a less flattering portrayal in Season 2.
Theory Two: Henry and Will Are Connected Somehow
In addition to the character named El, Stranger Things has consistently given significant attention to Will Byers, who possesses a special link with the Upside Down world. Some speculate that Eleven and Henry Creel might be blood relatives, possibly making Henry Will’s biological father. Yet, another intriguing theory proposes that it’s actually Will and Henry who share an unspoken connection or bond.
As a longtime fan of the Stranger Things series, I have spent countless hours pondering various theories about the characters and their interconnected stories. One theory that particularly intrigues me is the possibility that Will may be connected to Henry or Vecna in ways we don’t yet understand.
Theory Three: Max Is Trapped Inside Vecna’s Mind
By the finale of Season 4, Max narrowly survives an encounter with Vecna, coming perilously close to being killed by him. This harrowing ordeal leaves Max without sight and unable to move. In her current state, she lies critically injured in a hospital bed, having sustained numerous fractures. Although she’s still alive, one might say that she exists somewhere between life and death. One intriguing fan theory posits that Max is actually trapped within the confines of Vecna’s mind.
In the fourth season, I found myself utterly gripped by the iconic “Running Up That Hill” moment when Max valiantly stood against Vecna in the Upside Down. Instead of meeting her end, Max was transported back to the real world with her physical body, leaving behind a shell that seemed more like an empty vessel without its true occupant. Meanwhile, her spirit remained captive in the Upside Down under Vecna’s oppressive reign.
Theory Four: Karen Wheeler Is Connected to the Creels
In the hit series Stranger Things, Mike and Nancy’s mom, Karen Wheeler, doesn’t have a significant presence throughout most of the show. However, she makes a notable impact in Season 3, when there’s a hint of an almost-affair with Billy Hargrove. Among the numerous fan theories about Vecna and his backstory, one intriguing theory suggests that Karen Wheeler is closely linked to Vecna, with many fans speculating that she might be his sister, Alice Creel. This theory was initially sparked by the character posters for Season 4, where main characters like Eleven, Mike, and Max were depicted, but surprisingly, Karen Wheeler also got her own poster. Interestingly, among all the supporting characters, only Karen received a separate poster in Season 4.
Moreover, Karen’s poster included a view of Creel House, which caused quite a stir online regarding her relationship with Vecna. Some speculated that she could be Vecna’s late sister, Alice. A noteworthy observation for keen-eyed viewers lies in Karen’s reaction when Vecna tears open Hawkins at the end of Season 4 – she remained surprisingly calm, as if the event were prearranged.
Theory Five: The Events of Stranger Things Never Happened
A growing theory among fans posits that the entire plotline of Stranger Things might have been nothing more than a highly imaginative Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) game devised by Will Byers, played out in Mike Wheeler’s basement. According to this theory, the Demogorgon, the Mind Flayer, and even the character Vecna are just figments of their collective imagination. The story suggests that none of the characters who appeared to die actually perished but instead survived through the power of role-playing and creativity. If this theory holds true, Season 5 might conclude with the boys resuming their D&D game in Mike’s basement, reenacting the final battle against Vecna as Hawkins’ heroes.
Although some viewers find this hypothesis intriguing, the idea that all deceased characters in Stranger Things are actually alive could diminish the powerful impact of its gripping narrative. If the series were to reveal that everything was a fabrication, it might deal a heavy blow from which it may not recover. However, the Duffer brothers have dispelled this theory, leaving fans to ponder its implications for the show’s ongoing storyline.
