The popular series “Stranger Things” is preparing for its swan song, its fifth and final season, leaving many fans feeling a sense of sadness. As we approach this series finale, one of the stars shares their thoughts on the show’s conclusion, expressing deep emotions in a touching and poignant statement.
The popular Netflix series “Stranger Things,” initially released in 2016, is preparing to conclude its impressive decade-long run after five seasons. Despite seeming like the show has been on for longer, it took almost ten years to produce because of a three-year break between seasons three and four, which debuted in 2019 and 2022. The production timeline was further affected by writers’ and actors’ strikes, but filming for the last season began on January 8th, 2024. Now, the highly anticipated series is readying itself for its grand finale in 2025. Judging by the titles of the upcoming “Stranger Things” season five final episodes, the town of Hawkins, set in 1987, can expect a more ominous season this time around.
Finn Wolfhard Discusses Stranger Things ‘Incredibly Emotional’ Ending
In an interview with Variety, Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler, opened up about his time on the Stranger Things set and the emotional impact of wrapping up the show after a decade-long journey. Wolfhard emphasized that the experience has been “extraordinarily emotional” as it marked the end of ten significant years in his life. The production of season five was particularly intense, he added.
Reflecting on the shared journey, Wolfhard noted, “It’s been incredibly emotional, obviously. It’s the last decade of my life. Similarly, for the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, they started when they were 30 and are now 40. Everyone has had a long journey that we’ve experienced together.”
At just 22 years old, Wolfhard began his Stranger Things adventure at only 12. To illustrate the difficulty of leaving something that shaped his life so profoundly, he drew a parallel to the touching Pixar film Toy Story 3, stating, “My entire childhood was there. It was like saying goodbye in Toy Story 3 – it was truly special.”
In simpler terms, Wolfhard stated that working on the fifth season of Stranger Things took a considerable amount of time, similar to the Peter Jackson trilogy. He described it as a lengthy production with a year-long shoot, which he found both challenging and rewarding. As the year drew to a close, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos praised the final season, calling it “exceptionally good” and an “emotional journey.
Currently, no specific launch date has been announced yet, but it’s expected that the fifth season of “Stranger Things” will stream on Netflix by the year 2025.
